Default Shifter Base

I know I've seen either a post on here or a website showing how to take the shifter base apart and reassemble it but I can't find it anywhere..... Does anybody know where I can find a break down?

*If that's not what you wanted, go to "features" at the top left of your screen, click on "tech", then scroll down to "shifter" for several options...

Ok, first let me just say thanks for your attempt to help by trying making me look stupid. Unfortunately, I did not ask how to get the center console out of the car(I know how to do that). I was simply asking how to take the shifter itself apart. I also stated in the first post that I had made attempts to find it but had no success. I guess even people who are 50 don't know how to follow through with reading the whole post!!! I have since been able to find it....

the shifter is pretty easy to take apart. just pop off the clips holding the cables off, remove the cables, unbolt the base and pull it out... as far as getting the shifter itself out, that is a PITA and will involve some cussing. i used my dremmel to cut off the little locking piece, you new shifter should have a new one to replace it with, and then i used a standard screw driver to pry off the cup/cover that holds the shifter in place. i of course was very kind to it and broke some of the flaps off, so i just used some plastic epoxy when i reinstalled it and so far no issues... once you start working on it you will figure it out, but it is a pain and not fun... hope this helps...

Yeah, thanks. The part that you cut off was the lock ring for that cross shaft, right?

Sorry if you misinterpreted my post - I was just yanking your chain (hence the "wink" at the end), coming from a guy who is admittedly not as handy with computers, websites, etc., as most of you younger guys.

Also: "how to take the shifter base apart" is a bit vague, so excuuuuuse me for misunderstanding your question!

As for folks not "knowing how to follow through with reading the whole post", if you read the end of mine, you'll note that I wrote: "*If that's not what you wanted, go to "features" at the top left of your screen, click on "tech", then scroll down to "shifter" for several options..." That's typically referred to as "attempting to offer some help".

Regardless, I'm glad to see you got the info you were looking for.
Pics of the install would be great. I'm assuming it's a pretty straight-forward job, but obviously pictures ALWAYS help, whether you're a beginner mechanic, or someone who's experienced, but has just never done the job before.
