Default Trying to peice a yakima together-Completed

I have been looking at getting a yakima rack. So I was looking though ebay. Came across some parts. They didn't have part numbers. So how can I tell if they will work? I was mainly looking at some Q-towers. Are they pretty much the same?

I know the part numbers for the xB. Its just when I was looking on ebay. None of the Q-towers had part numbers, but they looked the same. Are the Q-clips what make it work with the xB and the towers are pretty much universal?

All Q-towers are the same...it's the clips that make the towers work with different cars, door jams, etc. These are the Q-clips that you will need.

Q121 Clips
Part # 8000721

I worked at a shop specifically selling Thule and Yakima products so I hope this helps.

Got most of my rack pieced together. Just waiting on the fairing, which should be here next week.

$115 for the Q-towers. Brand new.

$113 for the Crossbars and Q-clips. Brand new.

$51 for the fairing. Slightly used.

Saved a little money. It is slim pickings for 58" bars, Q-clips, and 50" fairings on ebay though. Saved the most on Q-towers.
I guess its hit or miss. Could have order it from rack attack or some other place for about the same price, but I wanted to see how you could come out going through ebay.

look for narrower cross bars if you can find em , cause if you're severly lowered and stupid like me you will hit your head. I'd just lopp some off.

I already got all my pieces, so its to late. I just put it on yesterday and got in my car to move it. Almost hit my head on it. I'm lowered two inches, but I'm 6'2". Got the feeling some people are going to have some bumps on their head real soon.

hey tcscotty, you can easily cut the bars if you want to. I used a hack saw. you could probably use a table saw or circular saw if you wanted to. (it would probably be faster and easier) yeah im 6'1'' and almost hit my head on mine too.lol. also, fyi for anyone reading this thread trying to piece together a bike rack, try amazon.com. i got alot of parts cheaper there than the prices listed here.

Rack attack prices out to $292 for the roof rack only. Bike accessories can be added at an extra cost.

Are the 48" cross bars the ones to get for the xB, or are they too short?

TCscotty, did you get locks included with that, or are the locks extra?

No, the locks are extra. The 58" bars leave about 4" on each side of the Q towers. So 48" would be to short.
