in each rear corner there is a panel that you pull out ( interior of the box ) reach inside and feel for the bulb you need to replace. Turn a 1/4 turn counterclock wise and pull it away from the housing. Replace bulb and re-install.

i'm trying to replace my dead third brake light (bulb #921)...i've removed the black plastic housing...but can't seem to slip off the bulb...the pic in the manual says to turn counterclockwise (while facing the front of the car)---it seems I'm straining, but it can't come off---I feel if i turn it any more, it'll break off instead!

Any tips?

you don't actually turn the bulb. the bulb pulls straight out. if you want to remove the whole socket holding the bulb, that is what you twist cw and remove.

my bad in understanding your directions...yes, I had to first jiggle, then spray with silicone spray before it would turn to come apart...then pull straight out the bulb...

btw, those two screws on either side that holds the entire housing doesn'tdo jack...(I removed them, but the housing even wouldn't come off, and didn't want to break it).

But hey, I'm happy that I finally replaced it...it needed some lube to loosen!

now some cars are down right impossible. (VW Jetta and New Beetle)

the 3rd brake lamp bulb sometimes will get very hot and melt the plastic. keep an eye on it. i personally am not a big fan of it. the bulb swells up and gets hot and sometimes will melt its own housing/plug. and a LEd bulb doesnt work too well unless you PM the master, snowromance
