I thought it might be time to change my cabin air filter so I pulled it out. Turns out it was only slightly dirty.
First I blew it off with compressed air and that cleaned it about 50%.
Next I sprayed it down with oxiclean and scrubbed it lightly with a soft brush and rinsed. Alot of dirt came off after that when I rinsed it.
My filter is a Purolator and it ended up being quite tough. Never put any holes in it during the cleaning. Now it smells just like new and ready for another year.
I hit it again lightly with compressed air to semi dry it then hit it with a hair dryer for about 5 minutes. Smells very nice and dry. Then re installed it.

 

hmm I just go but a $2.00 filter at Wallyworld and cut it up and make 4 out of them

 

^^^ same. i got a huge 3M filtrete filter that's for your house and just cut it into sizes that fit the filter slot. i replace it about once every 6 months. works very well.

 

I thought about that but also worried about how freely they flow air?
I may try that next time it gets dirty or I may just clean it again. I paid 6 bucks for this filter a year ago and might as well get my use from it.

I use the same ones in my home I am sure they flow as good if not better...

 

I've been using one of those giant home air filters, cut into smaller pieces. I think I need some sort of charcoal filter layer though, if I want to get rid of incoming odors as well.

 

DIY! Get a huge filter for $1.99 and cut 4~6 out of it. I change mine @ every 5k oil/filter service. EZ to remember!

 

Believe me I know what you guys are talking about. This is NOT what this thread is all about.

I'm not gonna do that till after this PUROLATOR filter I have developes a hole from being cleaner.

That's some stringent reuse there, Jeff. Way too much work for me though. I still have at least 3 filters I can cut from the large filter I bought last year.

 

Yeah I know but I hate wasting money until I have to. The cleaned filter smells new again so I'll just have to see how it filters now.

 

Yea, mine's a disaster, and it's allergy season, so it's time for a new one!
