Default Aftermarket steering wheels: worth losing the airbag?

I'm about 6'2" with long legs, I would really like to be able to slide the seat farther back for more leg room without having the steering wheel be out of comfortable reach. I have already tried putting washers under the front seat brackets to add more leg support, but I still feel like my legs are all scrunched up with my knees too close to the dash. Is an aftermarket steering wheel setup the only way to go for my problem? No way to add some sort of spacer to the stock steering wheel? At this point, I really don't mind that I would need to reach a little for the turn signal/wiper controls, but in your honest opinion(s), would it be worth losing the airbag in order to have a more comfortable driving setup? Any related suggestions would be appreciated.

Just check out my thread and you'll see why airbags are invented and are put in every car.

Thanks for the reminder. I didn't consider losing the airbag much longer after starting this thread, definitely not worth it. I too have experienced first-hand the value of an airbag, but I think the day I started this thread my legs were hurting and I was just ____ed off and was willing to to anything to make it better. I ended up just doing a small upholstery job on my seat, removing some of the bottom seat cushioning towards the back of the seat so I sit a little lower with my legs slightly farther back. I didn't miss the cusioning since I have nice padded seat covers, and the seating position is a bit more comfortable now. Thanks again.

Cool, glad you found a better way to fix the problem instead of risking a safety feature that would have helped you in the future. My friend who happened to be 5'11 said the same thing about your problem too.
