Default Wax Questions...

So I need 2 wax my car and I had a few questions.. I use Meguair's NXT Gen Wax and wanted 2 know a few things...

1. Is the foam applicator the best thing 2 apply it?
2. How long do you usually leave your wax on 2 dry?

anyone throw some knowledge on me?

Clay bar is a product you can buy basically anywhere, the most popular being my Meguiars and Mothers.

After you wash the car VERY well, you basically use the bottle of detailer spray which acts as a lubricant and rub the clay all over you car, one area at a time ensuring it stays lubricated. It will basically remove ALL bonded contaminants to your paint which normal washing won't remove, giving it a smooth-as-glass feeling to the touch, as well as giving the best possible reflection.

But afterwards, you NEED to wax it, as clay baring does remove all wax on the paint.

Very easy to do, just adds a little more time to your normal wash/wax routine, but worth it!

As far as how long to let the wax dry, I use NXT 2.0 Tech Wax and I usually start at the hood and make my way around the car waxing it. Once finished, I let it sit for 20mins or so and then start removing the wax in the same order I put it on. As long as you apply and dry in the shade where the paint is cool leaving it on for a solid 30mins will be just fine.

Glad you found something worth waxing

looking at your profile your in a humid, salty enviroment so the more you wax the better for the paint. at least once a month i would suggest.

you can get alot of info off of Meguires web page and they will suggest a wax according to your lifestyle and expectations

good things take time....

Chemical Brothers? Do you mean Chemical guys? If so they have great waxes. Pete's 53 is awesome but kind of pricey (50 bucks). If you want something from your local auto parts store then go with the Meguiars NXT 2.0. Leave the wax on until it can be swiped with your finger and comes off without smearing. Applying with the applicator just takes a little longer than with an orbital but you can get into smaller spaces with the applicator. Plus spread the wax as thin as you can.

When waxing, try and use a buffer with at leat 4000rpm's. Hand buffing works well, but you will get a lot of streaks by hand. It's best to apply by hand, then buff off with a buffer.

Also, if you have a darker colored car, I would recommend getting a decent polish to go with it. If you polish first, it will keep a much richer tone.

Assuming that you use a decent wash (I use Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo), and occasional spray wax, it will stay looking good for a full year.

I'm using a $30 Ryobi from HD/Lowes. It's 6" which is a good size.
