Default Best bang for your buck...

This is the question. With all of the coilovers avalible for the tc, (H & R, Tein, Progress, TRD, ect). What would be the best set-up/cost effective coilover out there? Im focusing mostly on the non dampening units. I am aware the way you drive would effect the decision, (auto-x, DD, comfort), but which would be the best for all around usage. What makes H & R more expensive than Tein Basics? ect..

Different spring rates and adjustability:

i have the H&R coilovers on my car now but i just sold them to get the coil over i always wanted but couldnt afford at the time, HKS, right out of the box the H&R where VERY comfortable, with a great increase in handling, very easy to adjust and can go pretty damn low. i love them, but i voted for HKS just because thats the set im going with now. :D

I just installed my Megan coilovers over the weekend and I'd say they're very much worth it. It takes some time to tweak the height and the dampening adjustments, and it still needs to settle just a small tad more before I go get an allignment, but I got a two inch drop out of it, with room for more.

I'm still playing with the dampening adjustments, but so far - so good. I've heard all of the concerns online too, but I'm not getting any of the rattles that others are experiencing (but then again, I'm also not getting the rattles that others say are getting out of their sunroofs because I have a Spec). I did get some rattle on one of my numerous test runs, but it was because I had the lower mount too close to the adjusting collars.

I've never had any other coilovers, so I can't give a completely fair comparison, but I have no complaints about the Megans. I can adjust for ride comfort on the street (on bad So Cal roads and freeways) and still dial in more stiffness if I want to for more aggressive driving (on a closed course).

Best bang/buck, suspension wise, is not coilovers.

Yes, best bang, but it's not 10x what you'd get out of springs, and it has a hard time justifying 10x the cost.

But, if given the choice, I'd go with a company that JUST makes suspension parts, is established, and has a wide array of designs for different vehicles. That would imply reliability and experience.

Once you've got a company, go with the one that suits your needs most, in terms of adjustability.

There's probably not much in "just a name"... and it's likely they'll share a good percentage of the same parts anyway.

i wouldnt say springs give you the best bang, because i;ve been that route, coilovers DEFINATLY are worth it, IMO they are the best bang for the buck, you just have to look around for a good deal i had springs and i was stuck on 1 setting, if my wheels rubbed oh well, if my ride was too harsh oh well. but with coilovers, if the wheels rub bring it up a tad until tehy dont, if the ride isnt comfortable adjust it. it all depends on the person.

Part of the issue is that most don't take the cost of shocks into conisderation when going with springs. The stocks shocks will only last so long on lowering springs. You are also not taking full advantage of the lower ride height without good shocks. In some cases, a set of springs with shocks can cost as much as coilovers, and you still walk away without the adjustability factor.

well said, which is why I will be going to coilovers once my shocks go bye bye! Just need to find a good deal... then from what I have seen I need to sand blast my hotchkis springs, powdercoat them, and then sell them... maybe I can catch them early enough before the rust gets bad and that way whoever purchases mine can feel ok knowing that the springs are safe...

there is no best bang in this category, you will get what you pay for and most likely things will be worse.

if u had to absolutely go this route, i'd suggest a spring and shock combo. best bang for the buck suspension mod is a rear sway bar hands down.

best bang for your buck are my progress springs already on stock shocks ready to be installed.

but in all seriousness, you forgot B&G RS2 Coilovers.

thanks for the input guys,

I didnt include the B&Gs cause im compairing very basic coilover systems. I think the HKS snuck in there, but for the most part no dampening.

I currenly have stechs on stock shocks, so i know how springs feel, ive also got a few friends rocking different set ups :tanabe, trd with struts, ect, but im looking for coils. I currently own a progress rear sway, so thats been checked off the list.

When i mention best bang for your buck, i mean whats the difference between Tein Basics for 800 and TRDs for 1200? If its just the stiffness of the springs, thats not telling me much. Hows the quality?

You get what you pay for... you get what you pay for, that doesnt tell me much, thats like saying if you buy a lexus 250 for 27000 and find one for 30000 and they are exactly the same, you get what you pay for... lol Please guys, i appreciate the posts, but im looking for more difinitive answers.
