Default hissing/leaking air noise coming from around the side mirror

so I asked about this in my other thread, but I wanted to start a separate one so that more people might see the subject. I just got my xB two days ago, and I LOVE it. The only thing that is annoying me, and concerning me a bit, is a noise that is coming from the tweeter/side mirror area on the drivers side. I only hear it at high speeds, at anything above 50 mph, but it is a pretty consistent noise, and it is loud and annoying. It sounds like a hissing, or like air leaking from an air hose. I can't tell if it is actually a noise coming from the tweeter, or from the outside of the car, but it happens whether the radio is on or off. Anyone else at all experience this, and what did you do about it?

I haven't heard of nor have experience with this but have you checked the weather stripping around the door? It might not be seated well or possibly missing altogether (not likely). Pull the tweeter panel out and make sure the mirror is securely attached. Just pull straight out and it'll pop off.

the weather stripping looks ok to me, and I don't think it is actually anything to do with the tweeter, I am thinking it is something outside of the car making the noise. Looking around, the only thing that looks off is part of the black plastic trim that covers the area between the hood and the windshield is higher than the hood on the drivers side, and is not that way on the passenger side. I am not sure if this is the culprit, it seems weird to me that no one else has had this noise happen to them....

on a side note, I just noticed a creak/rattle coming from the dash on the passenger side this morning, not loud, but annoying. It happens at low speed over bumps and accelerating from a full stop...

do you have a manual? or an automatic?..
I have a manual and have some hissing noise when i change gears..attributed that to the TRD differential and the clutch..but may be wrong..

the area between the hood and the windshield is higher than the hood on the drivers side

Picture of that, as described it doesn't sound like what mine looks like. Get a pic, could be wind noise....

This may sound stupid, i dont know how well you checked the area out, is your mirror all the way pushed out, because if it is at all folded in a little it may cause the wind to hit it wrong causing a hissing. It seems to sound like it is wind related, if it is only at high speeds.

Does the sound gradually get louder the faster you go?

If the mirror is all in place and secured right, then it sounds like it might be some kind of trim piece, such as the black plastic piece between the hood and the windshied.

Where my d/s mirror hinges, there is a hiss when approaching speeds about roughly this speed. Not exactly sure what you can do to fix it permanently but it's definitely there.

note: 2008 xD though..

i am not sure where it is coming from, but these guys seemed to be experiencing the same thing...

http://www.businessweek.com/autos/co...718_page_2.htm

"What surprised me most about the xB is the smoothness of its ride. I expected this vehicle to be clunky and a little truck-like, but the xB glides over bumps and maintains its poise at higher speeds. There are some whistling noises during highway driving, but the cabin is surprisingly quiet during regular driving."

so i mean, is this whistling noise something that EVERYONE gets, or just some?

well, it sounds like just wind noise. I am going to bring it in tomorrow. Have other had wind noise at highway speeds? Did you get it fixed, and if so, how?

so I went in, and they fixed the radio. They told me the noise I was hearing at highway speeds was just wind noise, and normal. Do people hear loud wind noise at highway speeds? Is this normal for everyone?

My dad's Prius makes the wind noise hiss at highway speeds, but my XB does not.
