Is it possible to maintain use of the steering wheel control buttons while installing an aftermarket HU? Id like to keep the track change, volume and mode buttons all functional. Also, was anyone able to run 4 gauge wire from the front of the car to the back without drilling through the firewall? If so, please help. Thanks.

yes there is bypasses for it, but i don't have the site right now :doh: you can slide the 4gauge wires right through that rubber piece that you can see under the dash right next to the steering wheel bar.

You dont need to drill through the fire wall you can slip the wire through a rubber grommit on the fire wall located just around the lower end of the steering colum. Search around you'll find it, I beliieve there might be 2 you can use.

You will need a screwdriver to push the wire through, elec tape the wire to the driver tip and push through..

Yea, i have 4 gauge wire in mine, i have also heard of a lot of people using a wire hanger. In my case we were able to just push it through, it helps if you have someone with smaller hands tho.

Wiring it for mute is a great idea! I didn't get one for mine because I didn't really think I would miss the steering wheel controls much and some people have said that its kinda laggy. Is that the case with yours?

i've had 2 aftermarket headunits and i never used the bypass for the steering wheel controls, although sometimes i would press the buttons and i would remember that they don't work anymore LOL.

I was also wondering, where did everyone ground too, and how they hid the wire going all the way back to the hatch. Also, did everyone seperate their RCA's from there power wire to avoid engine noise?

i grounded behind the rear seats, RCA's and remote lead wire i ran under the passenger side panels, and my power wire i ran through my driver side. and to answer your question about the RCA's/remote lead and the power wire it is recommended to just run it like how i just told you.

I was wondering what about the Aux in in the arm rest, does that still work with a new stereo? Im assuming it should be in the wiring harness. I just realized the deck I got isnt MP3 compatible, so may need to get a cheapee mp3 player, or get a new deck...

no the AUX does not work anymore because you can't connect that plug into the new radio. but you can run a new AUX to there.

I put this in mine with a pioneer deck that has "ATT" (attenuator) function on the deck. When you program the PAC adapter, you can program any button to do any number of functions. Initially I programmed the "mode" button the work like touching 'source' on the deck but that was kind of useless since I only listen to my iPod, so I change the 'mode' button to control attenuation (ATT). Lovin' it.
