Default i need some advice from other people who love PCs and TCs

ok so i have two computers and i don't need two, one is a Dell insperon 1505 duo core nothing big, and the other is a Dell XPS 720 quad core with two 17" lcd monitors, upgraded video card, 2 gigs of ram, one terra bite hard drive.. well two 500gb. 5.1 surround sound. now my my question is witch to keep, i really don't need a huge pc but i do love the XPS and went through hell to get it. so do i sell the 1505 and put the money to a turbo kit, 600$ max, and keep saving on top of that. or just sell the XPS and get a turbo kit?

if u really think u can afford a kit by selling the xps then do it by all means. i personally hate dell, and build my own desktops. Comps dont retain value very well, and a turbo would be worth more to be. The core 2 duo (is which i hope u ment and not a core duo) will suffice with any modern day application and should hold it down for a few years of future apps that u would throw at it. (personally built my core 2 duo, sick vid car, 2 gigs, and 500gb hd with alot of other crap for under 1k and it can woop on mostly any program i throw at it

I used to be into upgrading computers till I realized how terrible the value went with everything in just a few months.

I bought an absolute TOTS video card for I think it was $600? A remember, it was a nvidia geforce ti4800 back like 8 years ago and it was awesome... till a month later and a 5600 or something came out and my $600 card was worth $200.

I doubt you will be able to sell your XPS setup for 5g's but IMO if you're over having a nice computer go ahead with the kit.

Terrabite harddrives... wow. I've missed alot in the years.

Any PC would be hard to sell. I build my own and for friends, and have built machines that smoke Aliens etc for about 1/2 the cost. Dell's are hard to off-load because of all the propietary components.

We're selling Inspirons with C2Q, 6gb DDR2, 640 HDD for 750 at Best Buy, with a decent monitor maybe 1k.....Selling computers is not the right way to make an exuberant amount of money, no matter how hooked up you think it is.

then you wouldn't get my XPS because its worth a lot more then that, my dad get a good discount on dells so i went with the XPS and its a great PC but my set up is worth more then 2g's even if you built it yourself, all of my other pcs have been built by my dad or myself and in the end its not to much of a price difference. my set up is worth about 5 grand new, and if you guys know anyone who builds for gaming you know thats its common for people to spend over 10 grand, i know someone who spent over 5 grand on a video car with 8gigs of built on ram for the card alone its made for programing 3d graphics. but i could definitely sell my tower, speakers, second battery, and two 17s for 3-3.5 Gs. the question is should i give up my pc for boost

It's worth about $1,700 all together. Brand new. Which translates to $700-800 used.

2 17" monitors - $300
2 500GB 7200RPM HDD - $150
GeForce 9800 GX2 - $450
2 GB RAM - $75
CPU - $300
Motherboard - $150
DVD-RW - $20
Case + PSU - $150
Logitech Z-5500 - $250

Just because Dell ripped you a new one by over charging you for everything, doesn't mean it's actually worth that price.

And anyone who spends over $10,000 on a gaming PC, is a retard.

and whos says any of what you listed is what a used? because you couldn't be more wrong. if you wanna spend that much you can have a crappy pc that will be more then out dated on a month, if you want a good graphics card, or two, two lard hard drives, quad core processor for 64 bit apps, and whatever else you want you have to spend more money. and to say that if you spend more then 10,000 on a computer your a retard is really di*k, a lot of people would say its retarded to spend that much on car mods, but a lot of people do it. you invest in what you like and you shouldn't be ignorant about other peoples hobby's, and if you wanna know the truth go ahead and spend whatever you want a pc then come put it next to mine and tell me theirs no difference. im sorry you were miss informed when it comes to computers but you do get what you pay for.

The "Dell insperon 1505 duo core" is worth like 300 bux to 350 on craiglist/ebay. It's several generation old, you're not going to get 600 dollar when the Inspiron 1525 cost that much brand new and has twice the spec.

But then again I still see stock 2005 Scion TC selling for 16 to 17,000 all the time GTFO

Anyone want my Packard Bell desktop?

It has a 435MB hard drive
-A 33Mhtz processor (yes, that says thirty-three!)
-4MB Ram (upgradeable to 16MB!)
-Floppy drive
-And one of those new-fangled 1x CD ROMS

Comes with Windows 3.11, a dot matrix printer, and a COLOR 12 inch monitor!

I paid $1800 for it back in 1993. I'll sacrifice it today for the low low price of $900. That's half-off my friends!

Alright, I'll go easy on you with this one. You've been told by multiple people, that you're not getting $3500 for your XPS. Now, I know the stuff I named isn't what was used in your Dell, because the stuff I named, is actually better. I basically built an equivalent to the XPS 730, the newer top XPS model. The thing you're not understanding, is that Dell is a ripoff compared to building your own PC.
Now the $10,000 PC comment. Sure, a lot of people spend that much modding cars, but you're comparing apples to oranges here. Blowing $10,000 on a Dell computer, isn't like modding cars, it's like spending $80,000 on a new Scion xB. I've been building custom PCs for about 6-7 years, so I'm not misinformed. You're the one who is misinformed by the mainstream numbers. Just by the way you described it, I know that is a fact. Just based off what you said for the HDDs proves you don't know wtf is going on. Size isn't the main factor for HDDs anymore, it's all about disc speed. You have two generic 500GB 7,200RPM Seagate HDDs. They go for $80 each, brand new. And they suck. Want proof? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148136

Also, buying a Dell isn't a hobby, building your own PC is.

This is directly off Dell's website, which is an upgrade offered as a second HDD.

500GB - Seagate 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache [add $200 or $6/month1]
That is the EXACT same HDD I posted above, which retails for $79.99. Dell is a ripoff.

amd sadly the truth has come out. You want a good HDD look for 10k and up if ur into performance crap, if not 7200 is fine for most daily users. Computer parts are almost developed weekly and lose their value quickly i doubt u will be able to get nearly the amount u want, i would be extremely happy if i could find some idiot to buy it off me for 2k

^ Even 10,000 isn't that fast anymore. I had a Raptor in my old computer and it started showing age after 3 years of use. I'd love to see what the 15,000 RPM HDDs are like.

Yeah me too, I gave up on PCs. I bought a iMac back in January and couldn't be happier with it. I also got a Dell Latitude D820 in February for free, and this thing is a piece of ____. It's only used for my work and the thing is already showing signs of slowdown.

That's basically what I had, and I found that just using one mid-sized 10k RPM HDD was better. It seemed as fast (probably a bit slower, but not noticeable), it was quieter, used less power, and gave off less heat.
