I finally installed my headers today. Here's a sound clip my tC with a K & N Typhoon CAI, DC 4-1 headers and a TRD Exhaust. The headers made the TRD exhaust ALOT louder. You get a constant high pitch noise when you're crusing on the highway and its actually louder in the car than it is outside. I might even put my stock exhaust back on get a new exhaust if the noise gets to me.

It doesn't sound BAD bad...just a little louder than with just a TRD exhaust. You're right though, it does sound "ricey", but a lot of people like that...and some people hate it...

Glad I opted not to get the TRD Exhaust. Congrats though on getting everything installed.

Thats loud, it sounds like a 93 Accord with a cheap muffler.......sorry but thats what it sounds like. :?

The stock muffler seems like really does its job. I still want to get the header but man thats loud!!!!!!
I wish it was quiet when driving normal and then got loud when under heavy throttle.

I like it, dont love it, but about the 'ricey' kind of sound, its in what looks like a fairly tight alley, the sound will echo and sound MUCH louder/ricier because of this. If you could get an open parking lot type video that would be really nice :wink:

1. A camcorder's microphone isn't the highest quality sound recording device out there, so what you hear in the video will probably sound significantly different in person.

#2: when i get a chance ill tape my XB with intake, header, n a borla axleback.. it sounds NOTHING like that.

personally i like the wrx tone...very deep and specially with the HISSSS of the BOV~

if you want rice, go get a rice cooker and stick ur exhaust on that~ VRRRWEEEEEE!

****UPDATE****

When the video was made, I had a CEL (check engine light) on the whole day. Today, I did a reset of the ECU and the CEL light is gone now. The car runs ALOT better now. The sound has improved and the "ricer coffee can" sound is not as bad as it was in the video. (no...I'm not getting use to it :D ). I'm still considereing putting the stock exhaust back on, but I'll see how it goes.

I have mix feelings about it, but over all it sounds good.

eh... I liked the way it sounded before the car passed me (where I could only hear the motor) then the exhaust was facing the mic, and sounded a little soda-canny... also, you rode the clutch between shifts ;/ Unless its an auto... ?

if you wanna here the tru sound of the power from the tC... go with a 2.5 straight pipe like i did... doesn't sound ricey at all... i admit it is a little loud, but everyone comes up to me and thinks ive got mad stuff done to the car, and says it sounds like a formula one car...

damnit, I'm spoiled after seeing the Fifth Gear video on the new Ferrari F430. What a beautiful sound! =)

where did you get your straight pipes done and how much did it cost you, it sounds great!

The CEL came back on after a day or two. I put the stock exhaust back on and now it's as quiet as the first week I got my car. Believe it or not but the car runs a lot smoother now. It seems that the K & N CAI, DC 4-1 & stock exhaust accelerate quicker than with the TRD.

To sum it all up, the DC 4-1 headers make the TRD exhaust sound like a rice can.

so with the CEL on the car is on safemode correct? did you notice that when you cleared the CEL the car pulled better? or does the car pull just the same with or without the CEL? thanks for the reply

This clip sounds anything but clean. Are you sure you speakers are on?

I have a Mirage w/1.8 lt 2 1/4 exhaust, high flow cat, and HP straight through muffler, it is very deep, almost sounds like a v6. I think , with the right set up, you can make most cars sound like what ever you want. Ihave heard a v8 rustang that sounded like a riced out civic.

I'm positive it's that DC header causing the TRD exhaust to go off like that. It's because of the 'cat' replacement or whatnot thats causing it to sound beeish..I bet you feel some NICE gains though since there is alot more air flow.

You should give the tC tunerz header a shot for a (I'm sure) alot quieter, more professional sound..but you may lose some horses..or of course wait 'till other companies start producing headers for the tC.

It's still a very new car..so I mean heh..within time they'll be tons of mods 'n crap out.

Thats true that all those cars come turbocharged. My mom had 2.0L (which is non turbo) New Beetle before the tC and it had a cat-back exhaust on it. It sounded really deep. However it was really loud because we swapped out the cat-back muffler for another one that flowed a little too much air. We swapped it again for a muffler with a silencer and of course it was quiet. It still had that massive deep tone though.

My friend has a Mirage and when it had the stock motor (1.8L) with 2.25in exhaust, no cat and OBX muffler that thing was very quiet. Nice and deep. Now its 4G63 powered and of course its quiet still, its turbocharged.

All cars are different. As said above it depends on the set-up. Ive heard WRX's that sound sexy. A few days ago I could have bet on my life a Civic drove by me. Oddly enough it was a WRX. It sounded so sh!tty, I have no idea what happend to his exhaust. It was HKS too!!!

I have the Borola cat back on my 03 corolla w/ Injen CAI and it is a nice deep tone. None of that high pitched stuff. I used to have a 97 neon w/ iceman CAI, Pacesetter headers, and flowmaster and it was ok but very loud.

sounds good, heck you can hear a difference if you take off the stock tube that runs into the fender from the airbox... sounds like a honda with hi-flow air-intake - badass...
