coilvoers wont do anyhing for sound.. but coilovers made my car a lot funner to drive.. it depends on how you drive and how the roads are where you live.. you wont drive agressively in turns until you actually get them... i used to drive my car like a grandma

Are you ever going to need to adjust the ride height? How about adjusting the dampening?

If you answer "no" to both, then don't bother.

Go for springs and some Tokicos.

I guess in the end, its all up to you! Of course any mod you are not planning to get its full potential out of might be a waste, but if you love the ride and feel coilovers would make it feel better and look nicer, then Go Ahead! It would be kool!

springs + new shocks will equal the price of most coilovers

yeah, adjustible coil overs are for those that really want to dial in their suspension settings for road and track use. like softer settings when on the street, and stiffer more aggressive settings when they to to the track.

if you just like the lowered look, get some lowering springs, and some upgraded struts/shocks.

H&R Sport Springs: $219 shipped (showstoppersusa.com)
Tokico Struts: $370 shipped (ebay)

Total: $590.

The struts were actually cheaper than that when I got them (like $30 less). And that's with expensive springs. Cheapest coilovers are probably $800 or just under unless you can find a good deal on a used set.

But why? I mean, if you need the adjustability and such, ya, well worth it. But a lot of people don't need that.

I just feel like a lot of people get coilovers to say they have them... when really a LOT of people have no reason to get them.

Ive also heard some horror stories about the tokicos. Most research points to Koni as a better shock and those are 600 shipped for just the shocks.

Hard to say. I hadn't heard of the brand before I got mine. But I checked with a few of my friends outside of the Scion world (VW/Audi, mostly) and they said they were a pretty decent brand. I just figure usually TRD is most expensive for the name... so I don't bother getting their parts most of the time (though they are usually quality pieces).

I lived in Houston for six months... I would definitely get the coilovers if I were you... the roads are not that bad in most of Houston... and you'll love the adjustability.

I have coilovers and they're the best improvement I've made on the car... so far...

TRD parts are good parts and part of the price is that you know you are getting OEM quality performance parts, most of which is a solid warranty and guarenteed perfect fitment.

other parts are cheaper for various reasons, cheap labor, lower quality, less research and development, maybe they are knock-offs of reputible name brand parts, warranty replacement etc.

not saying any of this applies to tochiko, but that is why some parts are more or less expensive.
