H4 is the right size. I put in Eurodezign bulbs in my 05 xA and they are awesome. They are also Xenon Krypton bulbs.

I've always been a big fan of Sylvania SilverStars. I have them in my wife's car and in my last truck, and I loved them. When I got my xA last week, I was actually impressed with the stock OEM bulbs that it came with. So much so, that I debated as to to whether or not I wanted to spend $38 on a set of SilverStars for the xA. I decided that I did want to do it, so I got a set of 9003ST from Wal-Mart. I had my car in my garage to make the switch. After doing only the driver's side (the hard side), I turned the headlights on to see them shinning on the garage door. I didn't really expect to see much of a difference between the OEM and the SilverStar. Man was I surprised! Next to the SilverStars's beam, the OEM's beam actually looked yellow. The SilverStar's light is so white, that a regular bulb looks pathetic next to it. So I swithed out the other OEM for the second SilverStar and I'm lovin' them. Big, noticable improvement.

If you really care about light output and not looks, you should get a pair of Osram Silverstars (the European version of the Sylvanias) in H4 size.

Check this site for lots of good information:

This is the truth! I put a pair of Osram Silverstars on my xA and they are excellent. I bought a pair online at the following link for $30 with free shipping:

Here's another link to a test of headlamps:

I got both my Osram and Eurodezign's off eBay. The Eurodezigns are much cheaper than the Osrams for sure. I think Osrams are about $28 and the Eurodezigns are $10. Not to mention the Eurodezigns come in a hard plastic casing so they protect the bulbs very well. Also DOT approved and lifetime warranty.
