*EDIT* Just out of curiosity, I sent a couple questions to TRD regarding this eBay ground wire kit. This was their response:
Beware! This is not a TRD part.
Another fraudulent eBay seller strikes again!

^^ Find out what gauge wire it comes with. The pic looks like 12 gauge wire. 12 gauge wire is a littler too thin IMO. I think going 8 gauge wire is better. I've seen people use 4 gauge also but it's a little harder to work with since it's really fat and not as pliable. Home Depot sells 6 & 8 gauge wire if you want to go the cheap way.
Here's a DIY link for a tC... Same concpet though.
Please report back and let us know how it works for you. I read a lot of nay sayers about these ground kits on doing absolutely nothing for the car and may actually cause problems (Ground loops, etc...). I also read about better engine idling, brighter headlights and better stereo sound, etc..... Unless something was already majorly wrong with the ground system, noticeable HP gain is probably a stretch IMO. Good luck and let us know. I hope you bring good news also, since I'm planning on doing the same..... just to see if it works. It it doesn't, it's easily reversible. :)

I thought you'd all get a laugh out of this response from MilkSpeed:
We never mention this is a TRD product in our description, if we in anyway misguided you, we apologize for that, thank you.
This was my response:
You must be kidding! I thought you'd leave it alone after my last note when I said that Toyota wasn't going to waste their time trying to prosecute. Your ad posting uses a fraudulent picture with the TRD lettering, TRD logo, and words "TRD Racing Development" in Toyota's font. If that isn't false advertising I don't know what is. (And neither does my sister-in-law who is a corporate copyright infringement attorney.) Beyond that, you DO advertise them as "100% brand new Toyota Blue Ground wire system", and Toyota claims no affiliation with their production or licensed production. Any way you look at it, this appears to be serious internet fraud. You should change your name to ButterMilkSpeed.

I wouldnt. All this does is upgrade the grounding and you spending much more than what you need to. If you want to upgrade the grounding system. The exact some process is to just upgrade your existing grounds in the car and that will work just the same. I did it in my civic and to be honest I didnt notice any difference. Friends of mine have and they didnt notice anything either.
Just remember people say that this works based on what they feel, and if we all think butt dynos much be accurate, thinking this works is the same. Unless someone can prove me wrong beyond just I felt and it seemed like it idled better.
Under the hood is all perception. I came from a wire tucking background where you dont want to see wires at all. It just makes it look cluttered to me.

Grounding kits are completely useless unless you have a crazy amounts of power running amps, lights, etc. I did get one for my TC because I like the look under the hood, but I ended up taking it out because of it's uselessness.

I just made my own. Much easier, and you can make the wire the thickness you want. I redid the factory grounds in 4 gauge.

never noticed a difference in my civic. So I dont see how it will improve here either. I think just a waste of money, unless you are going the show route.

Sorry, I now see that it wasn't completely clear above. He sent me the We never mention this is a TRD product in our description response after I let him know that I had contacted Toyota with questions about his product. After the last response I sent to him (posted above), I don't expect to hear from him again.

how many feet is needed for the complete grounding? would any copper be just the same? i'm currently looking into these not sure which one to get 4 or 8 gauge.
When I did the one in the xa section for my xa, the idle was lower, no more vibration at idle, better throttle response and radio sounded better.
To tell if it will work, just get an ohm meter and leasure the indopendence between the different parts of the car.
A spool of 12 or 10g wire is cheap so are a bunch of lug connectors, I may do it anyways.

They are for show only ... the factory wires are good enough on the new cars ... it might be a little useful if you have a 80's car ... but other than that ... its all show

was this just compared from both times you sat in the car? or any solid proof. I did it in my 1995 civic, and saw nothing, which included ICE (dvd, 2 10" subs, 500w amp, and a playstation). I wont believe this thing works until there is something that can prove that the idle was lower, and all these improvements other than just word of mouth. So anyone want to take the challenge on?

An engineer from the xa forum used an ohm meter to measure the indopendence of the car andcame up with the mod. Its wasa seat of pantsexperience for me. I thought it helped the slight stumble at idle, radio sound better and less lag when you gassed it.
Its like 12 bucks for a spool of wire andsome lugs, whats to loose? I just have other stuff on my plate before I do it. Clear bra, sways, springs, not to mention my life andmy parents life to deal with.

wait he came up with the mod? that makes it hard to believe because i had this done to my car back in 2002, and I got the information from a guy who had been using it for a few years before that. And do you have a link to the post where he said he made improvements and by how much?
cobb
10-21-2008, 04:44 AM
I never said he invented it, he just tested the xa and came up with a design I used. The big 3 grounding mod had been around many years. As you likely know many auto manufactures do the least to get by, so more grounding can help, I just would not spend more than 20 bucks on it or include any blue leds.
Basically, I am going to copy this for the xb unless anyone can provide better points and longer wire.

When I did my stereo install, I did the following:
From alternator to battery pos
Battery neg to chassis ground
Battery neg to engine block ground
You can use the factory grounding points. This is supporting 1500W RMS on the stock electrical, so I'd say its pretty effective. Make sure you sand down the chassis ground well.

I would use 8 gauge wire at the least, 4 gauge would be even better. You can probably pick up a car audio amplifier wiring kit for pretty cheap on e-bay, and that should come with wire and connectors...

i'm looking into 4 gauge oxygen free, high heat, pure copper or at least 99% power wires coz thats all my friends use and probably 4 gauge can make a better difference than 8 gauge. many people think 4 gauge is an overkill, its alittle more $$$ and heavier than 8 gauge but maybe more effective.

10-22-2008, 05:16 AM
Yeah, 4 gauge is plenty unless you're planning to do some high power audio in the future. If thats the case, I'd just move right up to 1/0.
If you're looking for good wire, check out http://www.knukonceptz.com/
I ordered my 1/0 from them, and their prices, service and shipping quote are very good. Go for their "Kolossus Fleks" cable, its really really flexible, great for making tight turns.
Hint:
Measure your runs with a piece of string, and add a couple feet to that. Sucks if you're a couple inches short, then you need a whole new length! :)
