View Full Version : max offset with 18's and TRD springs?
jbanderson 09-10-2008, 02:26 PM Im waning to get some 18x7.5's not sure what yet.... but dont want them to stick in the fender far like some I have seen. Id like it to be flush with the edge of the fender and i have no idead what offset I need. Im guessing around 35mm or so but not sure.
Also what tire size would be best to run? thanks

yep you'll be good with 35mm and trd springs - a couple of the rs1 owners are running that setup.
the thing you have to consider with the 18's is the weight - tire weight is actually quite similar to 17" weight but the wheel itself can range from 16 to 30 lbs (or more). i'd want to shoot for the wheel being no more that 23 lbs preferably.
this will be heavier than stock but not a huge impact.
gbrnole 09-10-2008, 03:31 PM oh and best tire size would be a 225 40 18 on a 7.5" rim.
jbanderson 09-10-2008, 05:41 PM thanks
jbanderson 09-10-2008, 05:43 PM also would 10mm spaceres be that bad to use? I dont know how long the lugs are on thwe xd's but with 5 studs im sure it would hold fine. Just thought I would ask...
It just seems that most of the wheels im looking at come in 40 or 45mm
gbrnole 09-10-2008, 06:51 PM hub spacers would be preferable on the rear as opposed to wheel spacers - don't have any choice on the front though if you need to use a spacer.
i've pretty much resigned myself to this when my TC rims come in.
gbrnole 09-10-2008, 06:54 PM also keep in mind that the rim width affects the spacing. an 18x8 with a 42 - 45 offset is like using an 18x7.5 with a 35-38 offset.
my current rims are 18x7.5 with a 45 offset and the sit quite nicely - in a perfect world that offset would have been 38-40
jbanderson 09-11-2008, 03:00 AM that makes it more hard now!
YELOSUB 09-13-2008, 11:27 PM Here's my set-up...18x7.5" with 45 offset...Tire size is 225/40/18's dropped on TRD springs...Hope this helps...

jbanderson 09-14-2008, 11:08 AM love that tire size. I think ill try my best to find atleast a 7.5 with 40mm offset. that 45 just sticks in a little. Thanks

I agree...I think even a 38-35 would be perfect...I'll probably get spacers eventually...
jbanderson 09-15-2008, 02:58 AM awsome thanks
katchkillah 09-15-2008, 07:14 AM just wondering if anyone running 8.5-9's in 18's?
jbanderson 09-15-2008, 10:47 AM i dont know but it would look good with some 275s under it! that would be wiiide for this little car.
silver06 09-16-2008, 03:20 AM Here are mine. 18x7.5 with +35 offset on 225/40/18.

jbanderson 09-16-2008, 03:24 AM 35 it is... I cant tell exactly but looks like maybe even a 30mm would still not stick passed the fender.

just wondering since i notice alot of folks posting seem to run smaller then what i have set up.
sorry for my usual thread jacking.
silver06 09-16-2008, 03:30 AM I think +30 is a bit much. I know a guy running +28 on the rear and it rubs even with a 35 series tire. You would also be throwing alot more road crap on your paint. Just my .02 though.
silver06 09-16-2008, 03:32 AM Here's a shot from behind too

katchkillah 09-16-2008, 03:48 AM cool. thanks for the input, so far i've not had any rubbing, maxed load, freeway big dips and other possibilities to make it rub. but i've been bottoming out on stuff. =( not used to that though. here's the set up i've got at the moment.
fronts 8.5” x 18” rear 9” x 18”
jbanderson 09-16-2008, 10:52 AM thanks silver 06. I think that is probly as far as i would want to go. looks good.
Katchkillah do you have any pics?

jbanderson 09-16-2008, 09:15 PM what springs do you have? looks good but I would have to have a slightly taller tire.
katchkillah 09-17-2008, 01:00 AM running tein basics. rear all the way down with perch (still in) and front still can go another 1". well that's the sacrifice for me to run this set up and have NO rubbing at all.
