View Full Version : Good place for rear sway bar install?
synnyster 12-18-2004, 11:36 PM Just got my rear sway bar the other day. I went to a local shop and they gave me a $130-170 estimate to install it! I'm in the Plano/Dallas area and wondered if any of you guys knew of a good place to get it installed. I know I'm gonna get a couple of "Do it yourself" suggestions. Just wanted to let you know before hand I'd rather not.
Kaeon 12-19-2004, 12:15 AM Well I would post in your local forum sir.
tigress4121 12-19-2004, 01:39 AM DO IT YOURSELF!!! I'm a girl who knows noghing about cars and I installed it myself in about 20 minutes (after my brother taught me how to use the torque wrench). If you can get your hands on a torque wrench it's cake. Plus you save your $130-170 that can be used for other mods!
mahalzkita28 12-19-2004, 02:51 AM i agree, REALLY simple install, DIY
synnyster 12-19-2004, 04:28 AM Okay, so if I was to do it myself, where can I rent a torque wrench?
don't worry about renting a torque wrench, do it by hand. me and my buddy installed mine in about 30 min. well ok he installed it in 30 min. i handed him tools and smoked cigarettes. i live in allen, a whole 100 yards from plano. so im sure i could beat the $170 install. pm me if interested.
synnyster 12-19-2004, 05:55 PM Well, I guess you guys have convinced me how easy of a job this is gonna be. I'm gonna install it myself with my bro's help. Thanks for the advice.
chipmOnk 12-19-2004, 06:51 PM all you need is a simple wrench/socket. i think it was 14mm. have fun!!
DelayedTurbo 12-23-2004, 01:33 PM And a perfectly level surface!...don't install with one side jacked up...hehe
brian 12-23-2004, 04:25 PM installed mine by jacking up both sides and putting them on some jack stands. easy install, just sometimes moving it around under the car to get it set up is kinda difficult. a rear sway bar is a DIY mod. so simple, it's not worth it to install it anywhere but your driveway.
imjonk 12-23-2004, 05:58 PM yeah, i just installed it, but i had difficulties that no one ever mentions. maybe i'm just retarded and couldn't figure out the "puzzle".
i used a hydraulic lift at the car hobby shop (cost me six bucks) and it took me about 30 minutes to get set up and take down and an hour to figure out what i was doing. undoing the bolts and nuts wasn't difficult, it was moving the old sway bar out and the new sway bar in. maybe that's just me though.
its too bad your not in the cali area, here at the scion central we install rear swaybars for $30 bucks. Your basicly paying for my electricity. :D
