Lovin my xA gas mileage
I have to laugh every time I see one of these lists on the internet (just saw one on MSN today http://editorial.autos.msn.com/artic...=668602&page=2) about the top cars for gas mileage. Some of these hybrids don't even get as good gas mileage as my 2006 xA. I get up to 42 MPG on the highway (checked and verified) and yet, 41 MPG highway is a big deal for the extremely small Smart Car for Two? I have to say, with the roominess, mileage, and price of the xA, it is tough to beat. Why in the world did they cease production?
Yet, I got 40 on a consistant bases once I dropped my old xa. I guess auto manufactures have a way of shooting themselves in the foot. GM, Ford, VW, Mercedes, etc, etc all have had cars, many cases 30 years ago that got or exceeded 40mpg, but they made them bigger, increased the engine size and reduced fuel economy.
I traded my xa for an xb. I was worried about fuel economy, but second tank on I have been gettin 31 mpg. Love the drivers seat room and the responsive automatic.
Never mind the xa, toy use to have the echo that was built for fuel economy and before that the older style carolla was easily capable of 40+mpg.

Amen Brother! Love my xA MPG! and loved my old 1980 Toyota Tercel and loved my 1990-2? Integra. Did not like the lack of B@lls they had when getting on the highway or when I was out east paying a toll.
2nd Gen xB has those missing B@lls
but still 10mph if not more diff.

If you are using your odometer to calculate mileage, you are probably doing even better than you think. Most Scion odometers read a few percent low on the stock rubber. Speedometers, OTOH, read a bit high.

It may be that the A/C in the summer is causing the same hit as the winter blend fuel in winter, but I don't see any consistent variation in spring or fall to verify this.
