Default RPM Questions.. PLEASE Help

Alright guys I've got a question.. I live in Cincinnati.. and its about 35 degrees here tonight... I noticed after leaving work that while im idleing and im parked my RPM was at 1K RPM .. and then it would go down a little then back up to 1K (I have an auto).. but my question is isnt colder air supposed to boost performance... ?While driving at one time tonight I was actually going 40mph an 1.8K ..usually if its warmer I will be at a higher RPM like 1.5K- 2K while idleing..I have a Injen short ram.. and TRD exhaust.. Im at 29k miles does this sound abnormal to anyone ? can ANY auto owners please chime in -thanks..

1. when it is cold out, your car performs what is called an enrichement cycle to help the engine warm up faster so it can read the sensors and operate properly. but this doesn't change anything when you are driving, when your wheels are spinning and transmission is in gear, your rpms will be the same every day, all year around.

and yes, cold air boosts performance because it is denser and more oxygen rich, so your car can add more fuel, and make more power, blah blah blah, but that has nothing to do with your rpms.

Just to sort of simplify what Drax said..

1) It runs at higher RPMS at startup as part of a "warming up" cycle. It does this in both automatic and manual transmission cars.

2) Revs directly correlate with gear and vehicle speed. If you've going 40 in 4th, you'll ALWAYS run at _____ rpm, no matter how much power you have.

3) Power increases are reflected in how fast the revs climb in a set gear. You still go ----- rpm at 40 in 4th, but now the needle moves faster.

4) Cold air does boost performance, to a certain extent. If way, way, way too cold, then you run into problems. You won't have these issues unless you're hanging out with penguins.
