Default First real drive in the snow

And I can say it is decent to drive in the snow, but not as good as my old honda accord was.

I couldn't get any traction going up my dad's driveway with about 5 inches of snow. And his incline isn't that bad. I was even driving in his tire tracks...

It slipped around a lot more on the road than I would have liked.

I drive the 08 RS with stock tires and no VSC.

What can I do to increase traction? Buy some blizzak tires?

Throwing it in a lower gear always helps.

E-brake turns are great (and a lot of fun) for reorienting yourself on the icy/snowy roads.

They're not Blizzaks, but I've got snow tires on mine and it does great. i drove it around in the first couple of storms last year on the stock tires, and lik you said it was ok but it is much better with snow tires on.

I have no real problem with the snow despite no one plows anymore cuz the cities are out of money. now factor in 20-30 mph crosswinds and then it gets scary

i agree, second gear is king for snowy uphills. my work has a steep driveway and i just put it into second and crawl my way up. i don't have VCS, but it is manual.

VSC? Learn to drive... lol.

Btw, I have been driving in Iowa since monday and the roads between farms aren't paved, and even if they are the wind blows all the snow directly onto the roads. I was doing 40 so I wouldn't get stuck in 4 inch snow, but I'd hit the occasional 2 foot pile. I had it parked in a driveway for 20 minutes after hitting said piles and when I pulled out there was a shaking and a noise from the driver side. Long story short car shopk and engine shook due to ice/snow buildup. So if you have this problem after plowing through snow don't freak out, just goto a car wash and blast it off with steam.

Snow tires are the best answer. My rear-wheel-drive diesel Mercedes used to be crippled by 1/2" of snow. Some Blizzaks would make it move like it had 4wd! Believe me, I used to have a Trooper. The Benz with snows all around would have more traction than the Trooper in 4wd. Now, if I had ever put snows on the Trooper, it would have been unstoppable.

I'm driving an automatic 2009 with oem rims and Dunlop Sport 5000 tires. Also have VSC. During some recent snowfall, the roads were pretty slippery and I saw other cars slipping and fishtailing. The paved roads were covered with packed mush.

I found that when starting from a stop on slight inclines, the traction control kept engaging. Once, when taking a right turn, I started to slide slightly and the VSC engaged (red warning light and beeping sound). Antilock brakes engaged once, when slowing at the end of a highway offramp and the car started to slide forward.

Overall, no handling surprises. Only surprise was the car that came sliding headon towards me while I was waiting for a light to change. Luckily they misssed me!
