i took my stock seatbelt out because im running takatas, the only problem is i dont have the pass side bracket yet but i already took everything out because originally the car wasnt going to be driven in the winter.
well i got laid off from my job yesterday so i have to sell my winter car and drive my tc in the winter. i was about to hook up the stock seat and seatbelt on the pass. side but then i realized that both of the seatbelt mechanisms that i took off are locked.
is this a safety feature?
anyways to get them unlocked or am i stuck buyin new ones?
any help is appreciated.

From what I understand it is a safety feature, but they should have a catch that can be pushed out of the way to unlock it on the cam gear.I will look at the amnual and see what I can find.
From what I can see in the manual the pretensioner is what is holding it up,disconnect battery and wait at least 90 seconds and then you should be able to pull it into position,if not the tensioner might of shorted or be locked in place. It does not say how to open it back to operation though, but I am sure it is possible as people take them out all the time to do work on cars.

hmmm.
why would it have anything to do with the battery?
the only clip they are hooked up to is the one down by whre you buckle it in.
i popped one of them open, and saw the locking mechanism, i unlocked it and unrolled the seatbelt, the only problem is that when its unrolled it doesnt roll itself back up like it normally does, and everytime i manually roll it back it locks.
guess ill try clippin it into the buckle and disconnecting the battery.

put the reel back in place, bolt it down, then pull out the belt.... that should be it...
i.e. the belt has to be in place to function, if you are testing it out of the car, it wont work.
im 94.37% sure thats how they work.

agreed.........if it is not bolted in and pulled at angles other than 15 degrees or 45 degrees it can fail to function.bolt it in once unlocked and try it then.if anyone can figure it out hoodie can.
