Default Kenwood DDX512 and DDX712 questions

Hey everyone. I am looking into purchasing either the Kenwood DDX512 or DDX712. I just had a few questions about them.

Does anyone have any experience with the differences between the two?

I read that you have to drill extra holes in the mounting brackets to allow the face plate to cover the unit. I searched for a post with the specific dimensions, but have failed to locate it yet. Any help would be great on this.

And Crutchfield online says that the PAC SWI adapter is not compatiable with the Scion 2008 tC to make the HU work with the steering wheel controls. I was wondering if anyone has used this or a different adapter to make that function available?

Thanks for you time

I have not had experience with the both of them except for when I bought the 712. The screen size and looks alone is what sold me on the 712 vs the 512. If you do end up buying the 512 though, be sure to hit up Kenwoods site and download the latest firmware updates. It allows the older Kenwood models to play nice with the ipods and their new updates.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I do like the screen size on the 712.
