wattage question
alright so I'm planning on buying an eD stealth setup soon. I'm just a bit confused on what the RMS Watt rating is for the SQ10. When you look at the stealth set up it says 300WRms. However if you look at the specific SQ10 page it says 250/500 WRms. When I was looking at other options I noticed that a lot of subs' Rms power are listed as two different numbers separated by a slash, what does this mean? Thanks in advance for any help you have to offer this noob.
200w RMS is all you really need for that combo, 300w won't really be any louder (power compression), and anything over 400w sustained could possibly damage it.
This info has already been posted in several threads if you want to search, and the source was the man from eD himself, Mandos/Chris.

why would 400w damage it? I thought if the sub didn't draw the power then it doesnt go to the sub so you really could provide as much power as you want, but the sub will only use what it needs. Am I wrong about this?
alright did a little more research and I clearly have no idea what I'm talking about
I'm not sure what to do though. I know I want the eD stealth set up but now I dont know if I need the S2 or S4 and what amp i need. ahhh can anyone help me?

alright 3rd post in a row. I checked one of my previous threads and several people told me that an S4 SQ10 powered by a bridged NINe.2 will work fine. Can people confirm this?
Yes it will work fine.......I only pushed mine to 300w @ 4 ohms.My first question is do you know how to tune the amp.If not I can explain so you never blow up a speaker or sub........or God forbid an amp.Proper tuning is how you get max volume with no clipping or distortion,I have seen a lot of loud subs that sounded like crap till they got tuned and then it was night and day.......just let me know and I can post how.

If you go with the S4, than any amp that puts out between 100w and 400w into a single 4 Ohm load will work fine.
If you get the S2, then look for an amp that puts out between 100w and 400w into a single 2 Ohm load.
It doesn't matter if the amp is stereo/bridgeable or mono, just pay attention to the load and wattage. If you go with the S2 instead of the S4, you might want a mono amp, as most stereo amps aren't spec'd to run bridged into 2 Ohms.
You could also get eD's stealthbox, but use this sub instead. It's just as good as the SQ10-S4 and would save you $10 if funding is really tight.
HTH
BZinn thanks for the help, I just read an article on setting gains so I'm set there.
nodssetse, I think I'll just spend the extra 10 on the SQ10 but thanks for the tip. Now whats the advantage of S4 vs S2 and vice versa? it seems like you reccomend I choose my amp based on the voice coil but I was planning on choosing the coil based on the amp. I didnt think the S2 would sound any different than the S4... does it?
Also how does the SQ10 sound when its only ran using 100w? I didnt know I could use that low of a wattage. If it sounds good enough on that low of a wattage could I get a NINe.4, and run 2 of the channels bridged to push 150w @ 4Ohms to the SQ10 and then use the other two channels to amplify my front stage? How would that sound?

You'd have 150w to the sub (need the S4, not S2) and 50wpc for the front stage.
It would sound fine, so I'd suggest you get the nine.4 instead of the nine.2.
Keep in mind that the difference between 150w and 300w is only 3dB, and that's theoretical. In reality, most subs don't increase output 3dB each time you double input wattage, due to power compression. In the case of the SQ10, anything over 300w is a waste, and yes, 150w would get it moving very well indeed.
