Default Got a problem and need some advice from those in the know...

I have a 2006 tc and I'm coming up on 40k miles. I started having this issue at about 37k and figured it would work itself out with all the weather changes and such. I'm not a gear head so I don't know jack about cars. Anyways my car has been idling high. Now I know the tc idles high for a few seconds when you first start it but then settles to .75 rpms. Currently it starts and jumps to about 1.5 rpm and then just stays there. The car has been maintaining that +.75 rpm through out normal start stop driving and highway driving.

Anyways I'm wondering what could be the cause of this. I'll be taking it in for the 40k service here in the next couple weeks and just want to get an idea as I don't have much faith in my local dealership to figure it out. Thanks.

Do you have any warning lights on? CEL = Check Engine Light, a Service Due light? The dealer wil hook it up and look for fault codes, some auto parts stores will do this for free. Hard to say exactly what it would be as many things can cause a high idle. Most likely a bad O2 sensor if I had to take a blind stab in the dark. Hopefully an actual mechanic will respond to you... Good Luck but I would bet it's a minor issue, let us know what you find out!

Yea, typically that is a sensor giving a false reading. Check Engine lights are typically an electrical malfuntion I.E. MAF sensor, O2 sensor etc...

Yeah I have a service due light thats coming on but thats because I'm at 39.5 k. I never had any warning or check engine lights come on after it started though. I'm wondering if it could be the MAF sensor after reading a bit more on them. Although it seems that usually means jumpy rpms and rough idling. I dont have either of those things so I'm not sure. Like I said I'm not a gear head and don't know jack about cars.

The Maint req'd light is typically to remind you every 5k miles to change yor oil.

Yeah I know. I'm aware the service due light is coming on because I'm at 39.5k and not because of the high rpms.

ok, just wanted to clarify. But it would be a number of different problems. Hard to tell until you get it scanned. Either at the auto parts store or at the stealership...
