View Full Version : Precision Magnaflow Catback muffler probs !!
rolstc 01-07-2005, 12:15 AM ok i purchased the Precision Magnaflow Catback muffler , and got it installed the other day. There was a prob w/ the muffler. Not only was the muffler hand made, it also came w/ one certain peice (i forgot the name of it), but i hade to buy another one from the shop. Also, when the installation was done. The installer told me that there were certain parts through the piping were they were just a little bit overdone. Certain bends that they had put on that shouldnt have been bent. Also, hes like watch this. He shook the muffler while it was on the lifter and it moved around alot. It was hitting a peice. He said he had to put in one washer because alot of parts were to close to other parts. But said that its still hits. So if i hit big bumps ill hear it hit underneath. Also another thing is that when were talking about that i looked behind me and notice water leaking from one of the connecting pipes. He's like wow i didnt even notice that. And he cuffed his hands around the area and said air wasnt coming through, so not to worry about it. He said he could fix these probs with a heat torch but would cause a early stage of rusting. What do you guys think i should do ? Go somewhere else to see what is the case? Notify prescision? or what ?
thanks
-roland
rolex87 01-07-2005, 12:40 AM the muffler was handmade? what do you mean there? a guy in our club has the first exhaust for the tC and it sounds fine....
TheScionicMan 01-07-2005, 12:43 AM Of course notify Precision. If there's a problem, they'll take care of it. That would be the logical choice, IMO. What do you do with any product that has a problem? Contact the place you got it from.
bashar05 01-07-2005, 12:45 AM are there any sound clips of the magnaflow cat-back?
i would like to hear some. thanks.
rolstc 01-07-2005, 12:49 AM well yeah it sounds fine ... but the installer told me that the bending was all hand made. Not through a machine. And then theres the loose piping. Then also, theres the leak .. I mean yea it sounds greatttt. but those 32probs are making me mad
TheScionicMan 01-07-2005, 12:52 AM How could water be leaking out but not air?
rolstc 01-07-2005, 12:59 AM well ...... thats what he told me man !!! lol idk
Mx6GT91 01-07-2005, 01:28 AM Water would be condensation in the exhaust. Its normal for some water to drip off the exhaust tip. But water and no air??? Maybe the water was from something else......A/C??
squirrel 01-07-2005, 03:02 AM I would have stopped the install and called.
Was it missing a hanger?
Water can leak thru a pinhole w/o air being noticable.
rolstc has called me and all confusion was taken care of. (Sigh of relief)
Very cool guy and I hope the installer will take care of the installation of the back hanger. The tC catback system was supposed to have a certain bracket installed, so that there was no movement, and it was not.

Every exhaust system that leaves precisionmuffler.com is test fitted for perfect installation. I do apologize for any confusion and hope things are worked out with your installer. 8)

ScionTCTrav 01-07-2005, 10:17 PM Now my Exhaust is Precision Muffler, Magnaflow catback also...I recieved it from GABE..and I started to put it on myself..but I wanted the piping to be welded..instead of U-Bolts...So I took it to a local muffler shop and they put it on the car for me..and the piping did hit a bit on the rear suspension..Like inthat picture above...So he told me that the piping didnt even fit exactly right in the spot its supposed to be..but this guy was such a anal dude..he just cut the pipiing from the cat to the muffler and he did his own piping..after her was done i loved it..I felt better knowing it was welded..
Heres a pic of the Exhaust under neat h and all..
thanks GABE Im still loving my Exhaust..Everyones asking about it..and Im sending them your way.

sportmaned 01-09-2005, 06:48 AM man i want that exhaust so bad... whats the performance difference between catback and axleback? and another thing is there a high flowing cat that replaces the cat? or is it still illegal?
man i want that exhaust so bad... whats the performance difference between catback and axleback? and another thing is there a high flowing cat that replaces the cat? or is it still illegal?
The cat back gives you about 4-6HP gain and the axle back will give you about 1-2hp gain.
Actually there is a high flow cat that can replace the secondary cat on the tC, however the cat is really expensive and would cause the price to be rediculous. The aftermarket high flow cat that is smog legal, is about $250.00 I have them listed on www.precisionmuffler.com So with that cat the catback would be WAY off the pricing chart.
sportmaned 01-11-2005, 04:06 AM ouch 250?! ic well i guess the price will make up for itself with the laws in CA? btw i'm in san jose, i'd be interested in stopping by sometime im in fremont for church every fri and sun

Beat me to it brad! I was about to post that up too. :D
rolstc 01-11-2005, 04:20 PM well i got my muffler fixed ... i yet havent taken any pic due to the fact that only camer i have is a camera phone. When i confronted my installer about the muffler that shouldnt be moving he sort of laughed like he did what he did right. So i printed to pics and showed him the clamp that was installed. What he had did was put it the opssoite way. He put the clamp underneath the bolt not on top of it. so it wasnt connected correctly. But the whole way he was talking ____ about how poor quality the whole system was. That he could have done a better job for a cheaper price. That the pipes were poor quality and the bends were pointless. I just satthere and laughed at him. He's like this crap is garbage. It cost them like 70 bills to make it and they charged you what ?? 400 bucks .. i laighed and told him yea. Hes like wow .. they got you. He added a whole new clamp because he said that precision made one hole to short. So he installed his and everything i might say went fairly well. I love the muffler , and gace that dude a 10 dollar tip . they didnt charge me anyways so i said the hell with it. ill soon post up pics
I am glad that everything was put back to where it was supposed to go. Sorry to hear that the installer was talking loudly over the mess up but some installers are like that. Hope to see the pics soon.

ALTERNATE_IMEGE 01-11-2005, 09:52 PM should of bought Borla
should of bought Borla
ooooooooooooo, low blow. Should have bought something thats gonna retain a lot of water in it which is the cause for the life time warranty and many returns.  Thats what I read.
squirrel 01-12-2005, 04:50 AM Actually, I like the Borla axleback on my Xr. It can be a bit loud at times under acceleration, but it still looks good for being on the car the past few years.
