View Full Version : need brake help asap
goodguy889 03-11-2009, 05:54 PM i just swapped out my rotors front and back with drilled and slotted and new pads but i have a mild rubbing on the back rotor just one side. its not really loud but annoying, what did i do wrong and how can i fix it. thanks
09tC_CB7 03-11-2009, 05:59 PM Rubbing? Does it squeal? or is the pad actually touching the rotor all the time?
I guess the pad could have gotten stuck up/hung up in the caliper. Did you uses brake cleaner and clean out all the old dirt and brake dust? Did you use brake grease?
ack154 03-11-2009, 06:00 PM Sounds like the ebrake needs to be adjusted in the drum of the rear rotor?
goodguy889 03-11-2009, 06:44 PM its the pad rubbing the rotor but i didnt use any brake cleaner
i think i had that problem when i first installed mine. It went away after about 120 miles, right before i got my alignment.
goodguy889 03-11-2009, 07:11 PM i kinda thought that it just might be that, that it will go away.

i just installed my new rotors yesterday and its been making noises (granted my buddy said i'll have that) but will it seriously only last that long? it makes my car sound like a rusted beat up POS
SATownScion 03-16-2009, 08:26 PM might have to get used to it.
i replaces my rotors and pads and every time i would use the brakes i would squeak but its has gotten a lot better over time. now it only squeaks when the breaks are cold every once in a while.
goodguy889 03-16-2009, 08:40 PM ok when i posted this thread i thought it was the pads rubbing but i was wrong. take off ur rotor and look at the thin plate (back only) and there are 2 little pins that hold the e-brake pads, thoses tend to bend inward and rub on th inside of ur rotor. u should see rub marks on the plat. just hit it back a little throw on the rotors and spin by hand and if it still makes nosie hit it again. will post up a pic soon to show u where to look
GQQSE13 03-16-2009, 08:58 PM ^^ i'll check that cuz it makes the sound even when driving

remember ur only gonna see rubbing on the plate
GQQSE13 03-16-2009, 10:44 PM i can't even get the caliper off to check that. is it possible to losen the caliper/pads?
goodguy889 03-16-2009, 11:03 PM just the 2 14 mm. bolts that hold the caliper on, if that wont work try taking off the 17 mm bolt that holds the pads.
GQQSE13 03-17-2009, 01:00 AM yea its the bottom bolt i can't get off which sucks cuz just had it yesterday
goodguy889 03-17-2009, 01:09 AM use a breaker bar or an impact gun
geo46_2 03-17-2009, 01:27 AM My brakes squeak when the car is coming to a stop. it's only coming from the front . What's the deal I did upgrade my brakes rotors and pads. I've had these for about 5k miles now. there was a little rubbing when I first had them but it's gone and now I have this squeaky problem . Can anyone help me out .
GQQSE13 03-17-2009, 02:28 AM i got it. we had to push in the areas in front of the heat shield that it was rubbing against
09tC_CB7 03-17-2009, 04:21 PM If you upgraded to better performing pad, this can cause more noise. I would suggest trying brake cleaner to remove excess dirt and dust to see if that improves the noise.
Some pads that offer better stopping improvement etc, (EBC Green stuff I know of) will squeal when stopping and that is the pad material causing that. There is nothing you can do to change this other than going back to OEM pads or similar material.
geo46_2 03-17-2009, 06:11 PM is there any pads that will reduce squeaky noise ? and where can I find some brake cleaner?
SATownScion 03-17-2009, 06:14 PM dont know about the pads but as far as the brake cleaner, any auto parts store. less than $5 for a can
09tC_CB7 03-17-2009, 07:04 PM OEM is one choice. I can't tell you what other pads will offer less noise, but I would check tirerack.com and see what they have for ours cars and look at the product reviews.
