Default Just had an idea.

One thing I think my car lacks (aside from a front armrest *I need the money to get one*) is a rear armrest that folds out from the bench seat. Looking at the middle seat...I don't see why I couldn't put one in there. And I mean one with cupholders and all, slightly more narrow than the untextured part of the rear bench.

I'm trying to decide how to go about it. I'm thinking either find an armrest from another car, or just cut the foam in the actual seat to size, putting all the necessary innards in, and going from there. Maybe a fiberglass box would have to be put in the inside of the seat to house the hinges and all...but I feel like it can be done. Just thought about all this on a whim.

Suggestions?

Oh, anyone got any ideas on how to throw a Nintendo 64 in the xA? I want to do it under the seat...but then you've got issues with putting in new games, turning the console on and off...and all that. Kind of seems like there is nowhere else to put it. I'm going to wire an RCA cable to my HU just in case I find a way. Great thing is, Nintendo RCAs are interchangeable with the SNES, N64, and Wii. Hmmm...

Suggestions? I'm deadening the car next week, so I'll be able to see the whole inside and go from there, but ideas are always welcome.

As far as the rear bench console, your idea sounds like a lot of work, but would be pretty nice if you could pull it off. Do you really feel comfortable cutting a hole in the seat? How would you go about mending the ripped fabric, and making it look nice when it is folded out and in use? Basically, how would you go about making it look clean? If you want to keep it simple, why not just use a universal bench console like these:

As far the n64, you could try installing a sliding tray under the seat like in this thread:

Looks like a lot of work just for a tray, and might not work for an n64 since it takes cartridges that sit upright and would need more clearance, but this is the first thing I thought of when you mentioned putting it under the seat.

That rear armrest idea is a great one. Never thought of it, but I like it. Ideal DIY project. I would need it to fold up into the seat and dissappear, for that seldom third passenger in the back. I fabricated the front one with misc. parts and a 1X of oak. Great Idea!

the Nintendo RCA's aren't compatible with the Wii.

Did not proofread that. Meant to say Gamecube!

I'm trying to conceive the entire armrest idea in my head. It needs to look really, really clean. I'd be concerned with it sitting too loose in the holder though...but I really want to do this. I think it'd be a fun DIY project. I'm going to draw up some ideas.

Still contemplating the N64 mounting issue. There just doesn't seem to be anywhere to put it, other than just sitting on the floor. I guess that's ok...at least it could be removed to change games.

The rear seat in my mom's Fusion has one...I'm going to study it over for a long time and figure out exactly how it is put together. I'm going for the exact same look and feel as what is there.

I was thinking though, if I cut out the slot where I wanted it, fiberglassed and painted an enclosure, and used a premade armrest, I don't see why it wouldn't work. I'm really liking this one:

In fact, I want two. One for the front seat, and one for the rear. Front first, of course. Driver is most important!

the N64 would fit fine underneath the passenger seat. I see what your trying to do for game and power on convience. if it was only set up like the NES. why not run an on off switch where the switch panel is? Randode sells factory like rocker switches to fit in there.

Could work, but I was going to run it off an inverter connected to the cigarette lighter, just because I have no clue how to hard wire the power to the battery.

If you got a link to a how to on that...it's a serious consideration.

i wish i can lay it all out for you but i'm scionlifeing it from my Wii since my computer is in traction. :-/. i'm in traction too. friday night, live bands, 2 dollar drafts.

with an inverter, you can run the power from a reliable fused 12v source and run it to the switch and the switch can power the inverter. don't use the cig lighter.us too many circuits run off it already. make sure the inverter has a strong amperage. you don't want a base one that won't power anything more then a laptop. try radio shack. they might help you out better. or any car stereo shop. a respectable place. not a national chain.

Still not exactly sure about how exactly to do it. Thanks for the explanation though. Once I can actually understand it fully, I'm sure it'll be good.
