Default Exedy Clutch Kit and F1 Racing Flywheel

I called my local dealership today to get a quote on the labor costs. They said they would get back to me on monday....I dont really want to wait that long so does anyone have any idea on how much the labor costs might be??? I know it wont be cheap but Im hoping they wont charge much more than $400 minus tax...Anyone have a idea on how much it might cost? Also does anyone have that setup? If so how is it. My tC is pretty stock and the only performance mod I have is a CAI.

why are you upgrading your flywheel and clutch if the only performance mod is an intake. i understand if your going f/i iin the near future. now the only reason i would go to the dealer to get those things installed is if they warrantied their work but seeing as they are aftermarket parts im not sure they would warranty the labor. anyways save yourself the money and sell the clutch and flywheel unless you need them.

well im upgrading the clutch because the car has 112,000 miles on it, and I drive it 280 miles/day. The clutch is starting to slip kinda bad. Im upgrading the flywheel because I had a bad experience with one in my previous car. It had about 130,000 miles on it when the flywheel actually somehow broke inside the transmission....the guy who worked on it showed it to me and I was shocked, so since I dont want to get stuck in the middle of the turnpike somewhere I'm upgrading that too. I dont care about the warranty for the parts because the car gets driven so much that it wouldn't matter. Plus my 100,000 mile extended warranty is up.

in that case try looking up the flate rate for the dealerdship and then look up the hours for the clutch and flywheel since they are both going in at the same time i'm am gussing it will be a 3-4 hour charge job and since a dealership usually charges $100 per hour it should come out to about 300-400 give but you should really go elsewere to check for a quote like a reputable independent shop.

i would suggest not bringing it to a dealer, since they dont install non oem parts for customers, unless you actually know someone(tech) in that dealership, i suggest going to an independent shop, since your warranty is gone anyways, why go back to a stealership, they will rape you with labor. i got quoted 6.5-7 hours labor, so basically $700-800 in labor. Good luck.

well the thing is the dealership is about the only place I trust that will actually let me provide the parts I want installed on the car. There are reputable companies around me but they will only install parts, fluids, that is OEM. Not aftermaket. Also they would be ordering it, so the part costs would probably be much higher. The clutch kit and lightweight flywheel I want installed is only $270 minus shipping on ebay. Which to me is a good deal. Then I have tons of little shops that will let me provide my own parts but I've dealt with some of them before and had bad experiences with them. Having to take the car back because they forgot to re-attach the reverse sensor, the odometer wasn't re-synced with the trans, and even linkage problems. So right about now the dealership looks like my only choice. If they charge me about $400 dollars though that was right around what I was expecting, so I guess im happy with that.

well I called them and told them that I had a aftermarket flywheel. They didn't say anything about not installing that. The clutch kit though is OEM. And if they say anything close to 7 to $800 then I guess Ill just have to do some major looking then...

I really wish I could do it myself. There is a DIY write up on how to do it on here, but I mean, that just looks a little too scary for me...lol The only other thing I took my car to the dealer for was to replace the water pump at 99,995 miles. RIGHT BEFORE my warranty expired. THANK GOD. But other than that maintenance wise I do everything myself. I even did the tranny oil myself. But this...I wouldnt try this unless I was a certified tech.

Thanks and yea I had the similar feeling about doing all the other maintenance stuff that I did to the car that I found out wasn't that hard after all. But somethin just tells me I should leave this one alone...I look at it like first time brain surgery...lol

That's not really 100% true. It varies greatly by dealership. I know my dealership will install just about anything I bring in as long as I pay them. But yes, some dealerships are kind of strict. But if you think about it, that's like saying they won't mount new tires for you because they're not the OEM tires... which is retarded.

But you wouldn't know unless you ask.

Alldata says the clutch install on the tC is 7.2 hours. which if done properly is about correct. if the tech takes a few short cuts then you can get it done in about 5.

wow...5-7 hours is still a hell of a long time...if that's the case then I'm probably gonna have to look at an independent shop.

Talked to the service department today, and u guys were right. They are trying to rape me into the ground on the labor cost. They quoted me for 10 hours of labor. 10 HOURS!! Total cost of it would be like 900 something before tax....The parts I was providing cost 293.00 shipped, so id be paying close to $1200. Insane, and what gets me is there were a couple guys on here who claimed they did the job is almost half to half that time...
