Default sub/sub amp problem...

Ok so I was driving with my stereo up decently loud, but at the same level I've always kept it at for years now. Never had a problem until tonight. the subs almost sounded like they were making a grinding/rattling when the bass hit, and after that a few times the sub amp lost power.

Any ideas on what happened? Fuses are still intact off the battery, and I checked the amp for any loose wires, all were connected.

Well the rattling, sounds like it could be a blown sub. But your amp is not getting power now, so it could be that your amp has gone bad. I would take the subs out and hook em up to a buddy's car w/amp and see if they still work. If they work and sound good than you know it may be an issue with the amp.

I wouldn't think they'd be blown cuz they can take up to 900 RMS each (there are two of them in my car), these are the figures on the amp:

* 4 ohms: 375 watts x 1 chan.
* 2 ohms: 750 watts x 1 chan.
* 1 ohm: 1500 watts x 1 chan.

Well do you have them wired to run 1 ohm 2 ohm 4 ohm???????and did you tune the amp with a DMM,test the amp with DMM now and see if it is putting out the proper AC voltage......test the coils for proper resistance,check wires on subs to see if one fell loose a little bit.

yahhhhh I dunno how to do any of that except check the connections.

Should be wired to 2 ohms.

Thats what I get for having a stereo company do the work and then go out of business sometime soon after.

its possible you sent a clipped signal to the subs that caused damage to the subs. how is your gain set on the sub amp and what's your audio source?
