Not hard to do at all. I would recommend some high temp paint but it's not necessary.

I know that you are a paint master so I would like you input on painting the plastic valve cover. What products would you recommend, mainly ones at the local auto parts store like Duplicolor. I know to first use the adhesion promoter, but would regular Duplicolor paint hold up in the heat or do I need to use the high heat stuff? And if the regular will work would the enamel base or lacquer based be best? I am planning on painting it white with black borders and lettering and putting black vinyl decals on it. Now with the decals, should I apply them first then clear coat over the whole thing (for more durability?) or clear coat first then apply the decals?

Thank you very much,
Jeremy

Personally I don't recommend Duplicolor, I prefer real solvent based paint. Don't be fooled with the high heat BS. All paint is designed to withstand heat up to 400 - 600 degrees (it's just a marketing scheme).

I would do this for a clean look:

Clean off engine cover.

Wet sand cover off with 1000 grit (just scuff it up).

Use a wax and grease remover to remove all the crap on there.

Wipe down object with a tack cloth.

Lightly and sporadically apply adhesion promoter ...wait 15 minutes and do the same with primer.

Focus on spraying the letters first (whatever color you want them to be). Let it dry for 15 minutes and apply a second coat. Let the paint dry to the touch. Apply the decals that go over the letters.

Once the letters are masked off spray the cover the color of your choice (two coats, 15 minute dry time between each coat).

Carefully remove the decals and apply a light coat of clear, 15 minute dry time. Followed by 2 medium wet coats. Let it dry for a few hours.

If you absolutely are using that paint...lacquer based.
