So i broke down and got TRD shocks, springs, quickshifter, and hotchkis front tower brace. The labor cost was almost as much as the parts. Did i get a fair deal :?:

Is this a logic puzzle or a trick question?

If 2 boats of Scions leave Japan at the same time but one is going 20 knots and the other does 10 knots but takes the shorter route...

What I'm trying to say is that we need a little more info. If you got a great deal on parts - Yes, if they gouged you on the parts prices - No

well some of the stuff was cheaper than listed but i wouldn't call it a "great" deal. I feel pretty good about it... i was just wondering if it sounded way off to anyone.

If i had the know-how i could've saved alot of money by buying off ebay. Oh, the 700 was for 8.9 hrs.

I paid $60 to have my springs installed - took less than an hour...

that whole job to be done at the scion central would have been $150.00 I am sorry to bring this sad news to you.

No. Shocks, springs, and strut tower bracecan be installed all at the same time since they all have the top three nuts in common, and the TRD short shifter will take less than 30 minutes. I installed my short shifter in about 20 minutes taking my sweet a$$ time.

I could have done it in my dirveway for $100, but for a regular shop, not a dealer, prolly $120-150 depending on the hourly shop rate. 1.5 hours tops for install of everything listed.

That is really rediculous!

I hope everything was installed corectly at least. Are you planning on moding more? If so than I recomend you search these boards for prices first.

yea thats a hell of a lot for installation. if you mod any more and get stuff like an exhaust (from Gabe of course  ) and intake then i would just go over the tech section. i dont know if ill be installing springs but i know i wont hit up the dealer for the outrageous $300 +

Most shops use an estimating guide for these types of repairs. Maybe not the strut tower, but there's book time for Remove and install front springs, etc. I'd go in and ask the service manager to book it out and explain exactly what took 8.9 hours, keeping in mind what Squirrel said, that these share common mounting points. They didn't do the springs, then take it apart again to do the strutbar. I would also talk to your salesperson/ Scion manager about it... maybe call Scion Corp too, cuz that price is EXTREME.

Like everyone else stated, the front end would take appx 15 minutes a side (30 minutes total), the whole rear end would take 15 minutes tops(now at 45 minutes total), a few minutes to set the strut tower brace before tightening everything down, and the 20-30 minutes on the short shifter. Just at around 1.5 hours for everything.

so the shops hourly rate was around 78 bucks give or take a buck or two.Now the time they assigned these task is a bit of a concern.First lake stated before the amount of time it supposedly takes them to do a single task is book.basically it says certain jobs should take a certain amount of time.So what I'm guessing happened here is they hate you because they most likely charged you several times for the same thing IE instead of using the lower scale for say the strut tower brace that would be used in your situation where you were also replacing the coil overs at the same time they wrote it up as several different tasks that would require them to do more(i bet they didn't)but you signed it so i doubt you would get much back in terms of compensation.

For 8.9 hours, you could have had a header installed, and axleback installed, the front end aligned, and new HU installed, and still have time left over, on top of what was already done.

Any service advisors out there that could check the book for this job? I'd wager that's not even a booked estimate, it sounds like a lot of places are throwing out huge quotes and seing if people will take it. Of course it helps they put the fear of "warranty" in people...

shop around not all dealers and shops have the same rates
hell you can call 4 dealers and get 4 differnt prices to me it
sounds like a bloated est even if the job listed in the book
takes say 2.5 hrs and the tech finishes it in 30 min thats
normal practice another tech may take 4 hrs to complete
(he/she would have to be an idiot) but shop around before
doing work!!!!

OK thanks peeps.

If you live in the Bay Area, and depending on when I have my surgery, I'll install your Injen or AEM intake for you just to help you out.

The tech area is full of articles made to help out with DIY installs, great info and very helpful. :D
