View Full Version : Horizontal Headlight Bulb Aiming
danboriss 05-06-2009, 01:44 AM I've searched google and this forum along with ystc but can never find the screw to horizontally adjust our headlights.
I think I also suck at typing the right stuff in the "search" field cuz, well, search doesn't exactly work as well as everyone makes it seem when they say "just search." It usually pulls up like 100 threads that don't help at all.
Anyway, forget that - horizontal headlight adjust??? I've seen a few threads on it, but they all ended with no answers. One simple, quick answer would be much appreciated. Thanks.
CarbonXe 05-06-2009, 01:46 AM Just look at the back of the headlight, it's right there. You can't miss it.
danboriss 05-06-2009, 01:51 AM lol k, i'll look again. man i'm gonna be mad when i see it right away this time.
JOEinSD 05-06-2009, 02:21 AM This might help..It's for 05-07, but I;m sure it'll be the same.

danboriss 05-06-2009, 03:07 AM thanks Joe, but I got that and it never actually mentioned the horizontal adjusting...unless I just don't read it correctly. I'm just gonna pop the hood and check again.
DJ08tC 05-06-2009, 03:10 AM There is no horizontal adjustment on the stock headlights. Just up and down.
danboriss 05-06-2009, 11:51 PM then what do u do when the beams overlap left/right?
replies seem to be conflicting?
CarbonXe 05-06-2009, 11:56 PM I thought you meant adjust the horizontal beam, lol.
Your bulbs probably aren't in all the way or set correctly.
DJ08tC 05-07-2009, 12:21 AM Yea try making sure the bulbs are in the housing right. I didn't have any trouble with mine.

x2. Was it always like that or did something happen to the headlight?
danboriss 05-07-2009, 03:15 AM HIDs put in, so i guess put it in, twisty turny. not lined up perfectly. it's not THAT noticeable, i can just distinctly see the two cutoffs overlapping.
SW_08 05-07-2009, 03:18 AM maybe your install is a lil off...
danboriss 05-07-2009, 03:26 AM haha good guess. lol.
when it stops raining i'll fidget with it....been raining for 3-4 days now.
SW_08 05-07-2009, 03:28 AM yea ish sucks....
i was in OB today my aunt lives off nathan dr off RT 9 by oasis ford or whatever its called now...able ford

Because on the 08 headlights being horizontally off means your projector is misaligned and unless something happened to the headlight, i don't see how that could have happened. I don't think the bulb is the problem as it would be moving around in the projector if it was not in all the way and you would see your beam's cutoff moving around when you drive. What exactly do you mean when you say it is "off." pics please...
DJ08tC 05-07-2009, 03:37 AM ^^This is what I want to know, because it is going to have some overlapping of the beams.
danboriss 05-07-2009, 04:00 AM SW 08 I live in OB 2 minutes from Oasis.
Don't got any pics atm. You know how the beams cutoffs will sort of "staircase" downwards towards the driver side? I can see like a lighter area of light (almost looks like a shadow, but its merely an overlapping it seems) where they overlap at one section, I guess it is hard to explain. I've seen pics of other people's cutoffs that look similiar. I'll attempt to find a similar shot that may already be floating around.
Ok kinda like raptor's cutoff in the pics on the page in his thread http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=214191&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=cutoff&&start=60. I know his are retrofitted; but it's similar cutoff. I guess I'll try lowering/raising the one that looks like it might be throwing it off that makes it appear to be a horizontal issue. Maybe I'm just blind and it's just one being vertically off, or a slight rotation of one of them a certain direction.
DJ08tC 05-07-2009, 04:58 AM Well mine doesn't look like that at all. His is different like you said since it is a retro fit so the lenses were probably misaligned when they were put together. You can try to move them up and down to see if it helps but there is no adjustment for side to side one the stock headlights.
robtheqb2003 05-07-2009, 05:13 AM Are you talking about the non overlapping area right after the step in the cutoff on the ds projector? This is normal for projectors unless your headlight beams never converge. The halogen projectors in your headlights do this just like the xenon projectors in raptor's retrofit do...
robtheqb2003 05-09-2009, 06:06 PM Any pics yet?
danboriss 05-09-2009, 09:30 PM sry nope. I'm just gonna raise the driver side beam and see if that fixes what I'm seeing
