View Full Version : brake pads
socalscion 01-17-2005, 08:00 PM has anyone changed their break pads yet?
should i just replace them with stock pads or buy the
Axxis Deluxe Brake pads
does anyone know the price on stock pads and rear shoes?
The Axxis brake pads have more surface coverage than the stock pads. You'll get much better performance and dependability with them.
It's definitely recommendable :D
its_ikon 01-18-2005, 03:01 AM i haven't changed mine yet, but i did get some in a drawing one day that i hope to try out soon.
Eski628 01-20-2005, 05:41 PM I got some Pro ACT by Akebono and they are much more dependable then the stock brake pads. I definately recommend replacing the OEM pads with pads that have a larger surface area.
Joehnn 01-20-2005, 06:06 PM On my last car I put on ceramic brake pads.
They last longer and put our less dust.
Don't remember the brand.
Minsk99 01-22-2005, 10:53 PM There are trade-offs with every brake pad out there. Ones that are great for high heat applications like the track will often be sub-par for normal driving conditions. For example, if you are on a long road trip and have been driving on the highway for several hours without using the brakes they will be cold. So, if you had put in some super high-end pads they may actually increase stopping distance and would be detrimental if you have to make an emergence stop in this situations. I'm not sure of what's out there for the xB / xA, but I'd make sure they are suited for the type of driving you plan on doing.
LimitedE 01-23-2005, 12:00 AM Akebono ceramics are OE on about 80% od import vehicles.
They are the best.
OrAnGeBoX 01-24-2005, 01:38 PM How much should a brake job cost?
Does the Xb use the same pads as the echo?
SXT_HuntToKill 01-24-2005, 01:54 PM you know i was just thinkin about brakes this morning i had to go over to a friends house to cut a tree out of the way of their road... on my way home i heard my brakes sqweek... im just wondering at 20000 miles is it about time to change the brakes?? on my lebaron didn't have to change them about 20000 miles??? if so im goin with a willwood setup...
rogcjms 01-26-2005, 03:59 AM i was wondering the same thing...when do we have to change them & also how much would it be?
Cockpit_XB 02-03-2005, 04:27 PM I've changed out my front brake pads already on my car & turned the rotors, its not hard to change them but it could get difficult if you dont have the right tools. All your gonna need is a 14 socket, a 14 open end wrench & either a big adjustable wrench or a caliper tool to push the piston back into the caliper. Make sure you use the shims off the stock pad, its to prevent squeeling from the brake pad shifting in the caliper. Im running a prototype brake pad from an oversears company that my shop is currently working with that gives you more contact surface w/ the rotor, less brake dust, short stopping distance, & doesnt heat up your rotors under servere braking conditions. if you want to know just p.m. or visit out website & inquire about them. A shipment of these brake pads are coming @ the end of this month.
do they make drilled and slotted rotors for the xA yet too lazy to look lol thats the american way ya know
Cockpit_XB 02-04-2005, 01:59 PM Yea, rotora makes slotted & cross drilled/slotted rotors. Wilwood have a brake kit w/ cross drilled rorors as well.
Al-Truistic 02-05-2005, 04:20 PM Better brakes...sounds good to me, I'm starting to hear squeals every now and then. I hate that brake dust, too, it was making me want to get brake dust covers or something.
Can't wait to hear how it works out for you...

Does anyone know the part number to the axxis pads to our scions? I need to know the part number to the xA/xB.
bubblemyster 02-14-2005, 05:11 AM I know this post is about brakes pads but I had a question about the rotor. Does anyone know how long these usually last, also how long do the pads usually last for mostly city driving.

Good deal. Carbon Metallics last shorter and put our MORE dust. I have to say, I did like their performance on my old car.
yesti 02-14-2005, 06:33 AM porterfield r4s pade are great. dust a lot tho.

With normal wear most rotors can be turned about 3 times. If you can get the parts yourself. Midas gets parts for about 10.00-50 and charges you 45-170 each , just a lil help to anyone who's handy out there. A regular person can get the parts for about 10-30% more than a shop so.. alot of money can be saved. ( I hated gouging people when I was a service writer there)
How many times the rotors can be turned depends upon pads , driving style , debris , and if the owner brings the car in before the pads start gouging into the rotors. oh and Hot spots from hard , frequent stop and go kills rotors.

sup Brad .....totally agree with you on that....HEH
mach5 02-15-2005, 02:03 AM xa/xb brake pads should last you 50-60K miles and the shoes should last you 140K miles +
tc brake pads front should last you 50-70K miles and rear pads should last 60-80K miles
i've noticed alot of people get a little anal with brakes and start changing them blindly
but its your money
