View Full Version : Nos Setup
microbg 06-02-2009, 05:09 AM Hello there, i have a few questions for any one who has the answers but ill just go ahead and post what im going to do.
im setting my 08 scion xd up with nos, im changing the spark plugs out (not sure what kind yet) any thing specific i should get?
im getting two 10 pound bottles with a duel purge valve. i plan on doing a wet setup but might change my mind to a dry shot. only a 55 shot (mainly going for show but still want to have some fun with it) i have headers, and exhaust and a full specter cold air intake.
im going to use a MSD window switch so i don't over rev and Blow the engine.. and im getting a fuel pressure safety switch that way if my fuel pressure falls below a certain point the nos wont engage (to avoid bad fuel/nos mixture)
and a full-throttle activation switch so i dont blow it at a low RPM
and last but not least, im getting a 1600 PSI Nitrous Pressure Gauge. are there any other gauges i need? if not, i still have 2 slots to fill on my pillar pod.. will a boost gauge work? (when using the nos that is)
Will the car need to be tuned after all this or should it run fine?
can i put i higher shot nos system in the xd? (not willing to go above 75 shot)
RoberTron5000 06-02-2009, 05:40 PM where did you find headers? I'm looking for some right now with some trouble.
microbg 06-02-2009, 10:48 PM i got them trough my scion dealership. the salesmen had trouble finding them as well..
pickledchang 06-03-2009, 01:48 AM you purchased an aftermarket header at the dealership?
scionmag 07-04-2009, 10:22 PM you purchased an aftermarket header at the dealership?
sounds like dealer... I have not see anyone do aftermarket sets...
CASTREX 07-08-2009, 09:11 PM I just purchased a Nitrous kit for my car. No show here... is all about the go!
Is a NX wet kit. 50hp shot. For the safety factor I will be using a 2in1 WOT/Window switch from NOS for fly by wire cars.
We will see how it goes..!
TheQuietThings 07-08-2009, 10:32 PM ^def. let us know how it goes!
Bender_xD 07-20-2009, 04:50 PM i got them trough my scion dealership. the salesmen had trouble finding them as well.. :eyebrow: do you have any pics?/reciept?/part number to share? How much? what dealer/dealership? is it a TRD header or some other aftermarket? This is kinda bigger news than your NOS setup, which does sound very cool by the way. With the epic failure of the recent turbo effort NOS seems like an alternative. Not trying to hijack your thread but if you've found a header we need to know!
DeathMachine 07-20-2009, 11:34 PM Shouldn't this be in the Power and Performance section, not Forced Induction?
CASTREX 07-21-2009, 12:41 AM ^^^
I think is in the right place.
This section could be re-named as scion xD Non existent parts...
Or perhaps the broken hearts section...
Bender_xD 07-21-2009, 03:47 AM ^rename it Forced Induction Fantasies
ok i want micro bg to answer my question about the header he supposedly purchased through the dealer. NOW! haha
DeathMachine 07-21-2009, 01:13 PM lol... I think the dealer may have just screwed him and sold a stock header!
God that would suck...
Bender_xD 07-21-2009, 01:15 PM ^ i have a strong suspicion you're right... we'll see.
Where's this guy go? Hasnt posted since june 2, we may never know.
pickledchang 07-21-2009, 06:13 PM hes probably at the dealership crackin skulls.
DeathMachine 07-22-2009, 12:33 AM or he's cracked his skull...
banging it on the wall...
Because he realized as he took the old header off he just bought a stock header!!
D'oh!!
microbg 07-22-2009, 12:53 AM its stock, got it when i got the car. not sure why it was hard to find.. but im sure you can get the stock ones any where now for cheap.
i took them to a friend of mine and we used his dads machine shop to remake them
sv650m 07-22-2009, 01:09 AM Definetly need more info.
Bender_xD 07-22-2009, 02:50 AM thats excellent! what size piping did you go with and did you have any pictures taken? Have you noticed any significant gains? Its been said on the boards here that the stock header is actually quite efficient if i'm not mistaken.
microbg 07-23-2009, 01:54 AM i have pictures, ill try to post them when i get back from Florida. (live in Texas) but basically all i did was use the same size and all piping.. just added to it to make it a long pipe set up. and as far as performance difference... sounds a little better. but i have seen a huge gain in power. so id say the stock was pretty good from the start. no dyno stats tho
P.S. decided to go turbo...

I can't wait to see this...
Watching...
CharlieChaos 07-29-2009, 05:20 AM As excited I am for the Turbo an header a purge kit would be pretty cool
CASTREX 07-29-2009, 11:39 PM Slight change of plans...:rolling:
I received the Nitrous kit today... but I won't be installing it for a while... and perhaps I end it up selling it.
The reason: Why have an extra 50hp for a few seconds when I can have an extra 75hp all the time?
Yelowsub misfurtune has motivated me to start my own FI journey...:nails:
Already started piecing the parts... And according to my numbers I can complete a kit with quality parts for under $2K.
xD_kidd91 07-30-2009, 03:02 AM 3 scion xd tuners sent them selves on a quest to make horsepower. while others including myself are waiting and saving our pennies for the chance that one may succeed. let the journey begin and goodluck :nails:haha

That is just too bad...!!! But why an xA was getting your stuff? The turbo is too big for them and the piping won't work.. the maf sensor is diferent...
I was actually interested in your intercooler and perhaps the piping... but I just ordered one with a set of universal pipes from CXRacing... too bad your guy didn't backed out 2 days earlier!
BTW, what is the size of your cooler? I'm getting a 28x7x2.5 with a set of black universal pipes with silicone couplers... I got all for $160!!!
If you can't find a home for your pipes and decide to let them go for cheap I could pick them up... They probably won't work for the pipe routing I have in mind... but maybe I can save some of them... I'm thinking particulary your the black pipes on your picture could work for me let me know. I'm just not in the position to pay you what you probably paid for them as I already have the pipes I need... is just that those could make some things easier...
Regarding all the other stuff I'm almost done...
I would love your T3 turbo! but I won't put the money down for a turbo right now as I already have a GT2554R that I will use initially. If things work out and I get the FIC to work then I will upgrade to a super 60 like yours or a GT28RS.
I also have the FIC, TC injectors, Tial 38mm wastegate (not a fan of internally wg turbos). I also ordered the manifold already from JGS Precision...
The downpipe would have to be custom.. but I think it should be pretty simple.
So I'm pretty much done with the parts...
I also need a blowoff valve... and you Greddy is awesome but I'm pretty much over my budget for the next couple of weeks... So if you haven't sold it in a couple weeks I'll let you know.
I'm doing this on a budget so I have to take it slow! Probably a couple of months before I'm done.
Wish me luck!!

No need for NOS if I'm boosted... It would be as easy as crank up the boost! As the turbo will be working of the lower end of it's efficiency curve on this car. That means there will be more power available if i wanted.
The turbo will spool pretty quickly also, so no need for nitrous as anti lag device.
The problem is: Would the engine take that kind of abouse? This is my DD so I'm not willing to find out...
My idea is to run only 6 psi for every day use (hopefully around 160whp) and then have a secondary more agressive tune for 10psi using Meth injection (200-220 whp)
220whp should be enough for me to mess around with stock imprezas and evo's...
Would you image the face of the WRX guy when he sees a Yaris taking him on the highway :lalala:
Turbo kits are overrated!!! Don't get me wrong... there is nothing wrong with a bolt on kit... but usually most of the kits are not complete... so you still have to do some custom work yourself... and the kits that actually come complete... will cost a fortune!
You can piece out a kit for around $2K and have your car running for about $2.5K to $3K and I mean with quality parts and a management. You just need to be patient and look for the part carefully.
FYI a log style mani for the xD can be had for around $300
