I think people should read up on what happens with the government owns the auto manufacturers... it has never succeeded.

Cars become absolute crap... if they weren't struggling with quality issues already.

If the government owns GM, then chances are, I'll never own a GM product in my entire life. I will not support Fascism or communism.

Perhaps I should start pro-rating my income taxes based on my protest of these bailouts and takeovers... just like the hippies did to protest the war in Iraq. (If only that would work...)

ummm....it would be Fascism or Socialism (i might be off on what the definition is) that you would not want to support. Think about what a Communist government means.

You wouldn't be the only one that wouldn't want to pay taxes. the guy that played the coach on the TV show COACH, said that maybe he just won't pay his taxes, both state and federal.

GM is going to become GOVERNMENT motors as you said. It's kind of funny and kind of sad. The federal government has no right getting involved in the running of any company/business.

Also, does everyone realize that Chrysler is being sold to FIAT. Do you remember what FIAT stands for?

communism is what socialism eventually evolves into. the government motors move goes completely against free market theory and the capatalist engine that has brought this country to what it is in a mere 230 years. i will never buy a vehicle that is currently only being sold today because its surviving on my tax dollars. why buy something my tax dollars already paid for? where is my 'tax payer discount'? full MSRP my ****.

if the auto company cant afford to survive on its own as it is, then how on EARTH is it going to suddenly start making enough money to keep surviving, pay off the money it 'borrowed', as well as the interest? especially while at the same time, people are getting tighter with their money as well as spending it on other companies that havent needed tax-payer assistance. better off getting blood out of a turnip.

several things need to happen.

1~the CEO's who ran the company into the ground, need to be fired.

2~ The unions need to be put in check. By that i mean, they need to have less control over what the company decides.

3~ The government needs to let a poorly run company close or go through a NORMAL bankruptcy.

I understand your point, but I'll say it again. I won't support Fascism, Communism, OR socialism. Keep in mind, the ****'s were socialists. Of course, the "almighty one" Obama is a well known member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

The Unions need to be taken down SEVERAL pegs. How has your average assembly line worker, putting windshield wipers on 100 cars per day, come to make 3x what our TEACHERS make? Since when is 60k+ per year an appropriate salary for LESS THAN HIGHSCHOOL EDUCATION??? Hell, we've got R.N.'s not even making that. And then free healthcare for LIFE ? Jeeeeezus... do you have any idea what a single trip to the E.R. costs? Much less a few night's admission!

It's the Unions that have destroyed the American Car industry. While I don't hate on the individuals themselves, it's the leadership which has pushed harder and harder to suck 'em dry. They've succeeded alright. As soon as the government takes over, expect stupid little plastic POS's that cut every corner imaginable in the name of cost savings and the environment. The small demand that still exists will shrink to zero.

No government-run automaker has EVER succeeded, especially those from communist countries. At this point, are we not any different? The lines get blurrier and blurrier with every piece of legislation, every government takeover, and every bailout.
