Hey guys, I'm planning to paint my stock wheels black with a red lip, and was just wondering what order those of you who have painted theirs two colors like that did?

Should I spray the whole rim black, then mask off around the lip and spray it red? Or mask off the lip, spray the rim black, then remask and spray the lip?

Also, how many cans should I buy? And is primer necessary? I read through the Painted Stock Rims thread and BeetC's wheel painting guide and wasn't sure

How about you spray red around the outside first, mask off what you want to be the red lip, spray black and then remove the masked off area.

 

primer isnt NEEDED but it does help. depends on how many coats u want. you will need TIME TIME TIME good weather do it properly and do it right the first time. good luck

 

does the Duplicolor wheel clearcoat not have a mixing ball like most other spray cans? Been shaking and theres nothing moving haha

 

id say to use primer i used 2 cans and iv had my wheels painted for over a year now with no problems
