Something of a rehash of old info, but now we know what dealers in the 3 1st launch cities are getting Scions:

Canada gets Scion brand Sept. 2010

45 urban dealers

To many Canadian car shoppers, news of Scion's availability in Canada, first announced in October of 2008, was both positive and laced with the question, what took Toyota so long? After all, in a land that predominantly purchases smaller car than the US, the only market that Toyota has sold its Scion brand into thus far, it only makes sense that Scion be made available.

During a luncheon in St. Catharines, ON yesterday, Toyota announced that its Scion brand will be available to Canadian consumers as early as September 2010, through 45 Toyota dealers in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver (see list of dealers below). Prior to launch, Scion models and concepts will be shown at major Canadian auto shows in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, plus giveaways will help pull eyeballs toward the brand and enhance direct marketing efforts.

"This is a great time to launch Scion in Canada," commented Larry Hutchinson, Director of Scion in Canada. "As the auto industry emerges from recession, one of the largest and youngest demographics will be entering the marketplace. Young buyers will be looking to the ever-growing small car market. They are not only looking for a safe, high-quality and fuel efficient vehicle, it is important to them that the vehicle reflects their personality and lifestyle, and the stylish and trendy Scion brand will be there to fulfill that need."

Like Mercedes-Benz sells its smart brand, Scion will be integrated within current Toyota retail outlets, in what is called a "store within a store" format. A total of 45 dealers will complete the initial launch phase, including 18 in Montreal, 20 in Toronto and 7 in Vancouver. The participation stores will be upgrading their dealerships to accept the new Scion brand, of course, a serious investment in such tumultuous economic times.

"The next generation of young car buyers is carving its own unique social and cultural experiences, and Scion dealers will be part of their lifestyle," Hutchinson continued. "We are very excited to announce the 45 Scion dealers for Canada are already preparing for an edgy new car lineup and a whole new demographic of drivers."

A total of three Scion models will be available at launch, starting with the compact xD (cooler replacement to the unloved xA subcompact hatchback), the lowest priced model, followed by the xB, the box on wheels that popularized the Japanese trend in North America, and the sporty tC, a vehicle that essentially replaced the much-loved Celica in the US; we never got a replacement for the car in Canada.

Scion has succeeded in the youth market, partly due to its personalization program. The Toyota sub-brand offers various OEM wheel upgrades for all models sold, as well as customized shift knobs and sport pedals, satellite radio systems and TRD (Toyota Racing Development) performance parts.

On another note, not necessarily first and foremost on the youth-market mind but important to their parents that might be anteing up the money for purchase, every Scion gets a safety system that includes dual-stage front airbags, front seat mounted side thorax airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags, plus three-point lap and shoulder belts for all seating positions.

If you can't make it to one of the major auto shows or don't see the brand being introduced at various events throughout 2010, make sure and check out www.scionnation.ca for a closer look.

Can someone make a sticky to show what is involved in importing the XB for various years as this question gets asked a lot but I can't ever see an answer to it. For a 2008 XB here are some questions and I'm in BC.
1. Digital speedo, does it do metric, and if not does it have to be replaced?
2. Does it have immobiliser and if not what is the best way to get this done?
3. Odometer, does it need alterations?
Anyone who has imported a 2008 or similar please answer these questions.

Thank you to Mdiesel64 for telling me that the speedo has a button to adjust to metric. Does anyone know the answers to the rest?

Some shots from the 2010 Montreal Auto show. They brought out the pretty rides as they're obviously one of the launch cities. This RS looks decent actually. Must be the rims.

It's been nearly a decade since Toyota launched the Scion brand in the U.S., and now it's arriving in Canada. Designed to target Generation Y consumers with its youthful image, Scion vehicles have proven to be popular south of the border - especially with tuners.

Canadian consumers will have to get used to seeing Scion's small box on wheels, the xB, which will compete directly with the Nissan Cube and Kia Soul. The model shown in Montreal is a limited edition - the 7.0 Series - with sports door sills and a rather atypical exterior colour. Powering the xB is a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine producing 158 horsepower. It's currently featured on the Corolla XRS, and will be available with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission.

Pictured is the winner of the annual Scion Tuner Challenge - a modified version of the tC coupe, with a wider body, turbo kit and oodles of in-car entertainment technology.

Lastly, Toyota Canada introduced the small xD at the Montreal show. Tuned by MV Design, it features a 5-Axis body kit, custom wheels, sports exhaust and suspension, and an upgraded Pioneer sound system. The base model available in Canada will be more restrained. The entire Scion line will be launched in Canada in September through 45 dealers across the country.

Hey all. This is Toronto Scion based out of Scarborough Toyota. The VIP night at the Mod club was outstanding!! The first official party to launch Scion in canada with great success. It was well done and plenty of people with energy to burn. Scion Canada had their XD on the front steps of the Mod club. Well into the morning the party continued. People were great input was positive. Let the good times start with Scion this summer. From mild open canvas for expression to modifications that will blow our minds. Check out scionnation.ca this is official site. They have even posted for a Scion position at Scion/Toyota Canada head office. Plug yourselves into the calendar and get updated on the up and coming events. Trust me, you want to attend these events. As Scion dealers will be working hard to make this work and make it exciting. Hello again everyone. Scarborough Toyota / Scion got a chance to modify a hand full of XB's for Scion Canada. These XB's are fully being introduced or places at events all over the province of Ontario and Quebec.
Kennedy Commons (Kennedy and 401), a parking lot by the tim hortans and the Subway, is a place where custom car enthusiasts have been gathering for a few years with the turnout becoming larger as the weeks pass. This gathering is every Wed night from approx 9:30pm to 11pm. Yest approx 200 cars and motorcycles showed up throughout the night. The Scion team may likely show up with the newly revamped XB's. Come check them out with all the TRD accessories. Hope to see you all there. Cheers

Seems like its cheaper to get them from the US rather than getting them locally for now

You likely wouldn't save anything doing that. Also, not to mention, but US cars have significantly lower resale values in Canada.

Remember too, you can't lease from the US and you have to pay in cash. For a relatively inexpensive car, that doesn't make sense to go through all that work for maybe a few hundred dollars (which will just be paid back in current bank interest rates anyways). Any savings now will be lost later when you try to sell it in a saturated Canadian-spec market.

There's LOTS of cash to be saved by going to the US to buy, particularly when our dollar is so close to being at par. And no one said buying from a dealer is a must. There are quite a few companies in Canada that will help us buy US cars and import them. Even with their fee, we still end up on top.
I priced up a new XB with just a couple of options on the site and it topped $25,000!!!!!
Sorry, Canadian car dealers need to do better, Scion included.

Glad to see we can evoke such a passionate discussion! A couple things to consider... Canadian spec models come with standard integrated BlueTooth (all vehicles), Splash Guards (all vehicles), Carpet Mats (All vehicles), Engine Immobilizer (xB and xD), Daytime Running Lights (All vehicles), and a 6.1% Import Duty charged by the Canadian Government on all Japanese built vehicles brought into Canada for sale... Then, there is the exchange rate to consider... All in all, pricing isn't that far off.

With more than 30 automotive brands in Canada and sales dropping across the board, it may not seem like the best time to introduce a new one ...

Anyone who has imported a 2008 or similar please answer these questions.
Answers to your 3 questions:
1. most digital odometer gauges in passenger vehicles in North America usually have the option to switch between miles & KM's.
2. This is vehicle specific. If it was an option & was installed on the vehicle you are purchasing then yes... if not then obiviously the answer would be no.
3. Generally they do not modify the odometer of the vehicle when importing between the US and Canada. The odometer reading is taken, recorded, then if necessary, they will calculate the conversion into the appropriate system of measurement and record that figure on the new title for the vehicle.

I know this thread was started a few months back, but I was scanning over some of the posts and had a little input from personal first hand knowledge.
I'm actually from Germany... but I live in the U.S. now, and I have also lived in a few other countries around the world.
Generally speaking, between the USA and Canada, if someone wants to import a vehicle originally intended for the market in the opposite of each of these two countries... It's fairly simple. Most of the time, they won't even physically convert things such as mileage between the USA's standard system of measurement & metric. They will just calculate the conversion of the mileage in the appropriate measurement system and list it on file when the title is applied for. If the owner finds a replacement gauge/ gauge face with the correct system and wants to change it out so it's easier to see the correct speed, etc. that's entirely legal, but you are not required to do so.
Also, the only other major issue that importing can encounter is... If the vehicle itself will pass the emissions & safety standards laws of the country it is being imported to.
Hope that helps anyone who may still have questions about importing a passenger car to Canada from the US.
