no, you dont need high heat, I doubt the plastic gets hotter than 200 degrees.

Just tryin to help you. Type in Painting valve cover in the search and you will get alot of results.. I pulled this from one post from someone asking the same question

duplicolor high temp enamel......just remove the cover..sand if you want the paint to stick then hit it with some clear coat to protect....

keep in mind this is the plastic cover, not the metal cover. Sanding isnt necessary either. Im using a paint made to bond to plastic, and I need a clear coat, I just don;t know what "clear coat" even looks like, or what the bottle will say.

I just need to know what kind of clear to get, other products are purchased.

On the valve cover, yeah I would use a high heat clear. But for the plastic cover that goes over the valve cover (which is what I think sciontC is referring to) I'm pretty sure you will be ok with just a regular clear.

And if your trying to keep it cheap, yeah I would go with duplicolor.

It doesn't matter what clear you use, you don't need some special 'plastic clear coat,' because you're clearing the paint, not the plastic. Just get the high temp stuff like she said and quit being picky about it.
