Alright, so about a month ago I bought my first car (a 2005 FM Scion tC) and I'm very happy with it. It's fun to drive and looks pretty good but I've been meaning to put some mods on it. I've been searching around and decided what I want on it, but I'm not sure where to buy it or if I made the right choice. What do you guys think?

Wheels: Well actually, when I bought the car the guy threw in 18" Motegi Chrome's with the car and they look great. Just waiting until the spring to put the on..since I live in Jersey and don't want the salt eating up the chrome in the winter.

Grill: Looking to buy a VRD Grill but I have no idea where to buy it. I've read that this looks the best on Scion's.

Cold Air Intake: Going with an Injen on this one for sure, but don't know where to get it for a good price :\

Exhaust: This is the one I'm having most trouble deciding. The HKS Hi-Power Exhaust and the TRD one sound really good to me but I don't know which to choose. Both cost about the same, around $300 and this is likely my first mod to install so I want to get this right Any tips?

And that's about it for now, just a few performance and exterior mods to start off.

 

well u chose the right color thats for sure, FM FTMFW!.

as far as wheels go, chrome looks like crap lol and since u live in jersey the way potholes and roads are out there id stay away from motegi's cause there crap. I say paint ur stock wheels and just wait till u have enough funds for quality wheels. what kind of springs are u looking to install?

VRD is definatly the way to go, u can either look for them used on here or ebay has them aswell but u need to make sure there actual VRDs, if u search on here ull find the link for the ebay VRDs for a good price too.

Intakes really dont make a difference just looks nice in the engine bay, but to me i dont see the logic spending 300 dollars on a name brand intake that does nothing. Now what i did was buy a ebay intake for 30 bucks and throw on a AEM dryflow filter. basically got the same thing as any other name brand for hundreds less, all that matters is the filter. but ofcourse u can look for a used intake on the classifieds here.

Now the exhaust thats jus personal preference. TRD is an OEM style exhaust thats very restricting, the HKS is a straight threw type that isnt as restricitng. ofcourse the HKS is alot louder then the TRD but again this is all personal tase. i like the TRD cause its clean and i like the HKS too i jus dont like the angeled look (again personal preference) ud feel alil more (very little) with the HKS

wheels: ditch those and get something better.

Vrd grilles: look in the classfieds

CAI: google or classifieds, just shop around for the best price.

Exhaust: I have had both the trd and the hks, and i loved them both. the trd looked like stock but had some growl to it. the hks is deep and amazing but you have to weld a new hanger on. again, google or classifieds.

heres the firs thing you SHOULD DO. go on the classified list and look for parts taht people are selling. That is def. the cheapest way to do it and alot of them aren't really that used anyways. You find GREAT deals on it and you can def. offer them a price and see what you guys can work out. Thats what i suggest.

As for VRD grills, i got mine off ebay. Yes the fitment was actually REALLY GOOD. like 100% fitment. Got it for 80 bucksish plus shipping versus the VRD WEBSITE ONES 200 bucks. DONT' GET THOSE. rip off.

As for your exhaust and CAI. Check the classified again. seriously. its really good tool to look up stuff that people are selling for cheap. But the exhaust is your personal preference. I say the difference is that the TRD is a more stock look then your hks. But thats personal preference cus the muffler really doesn't add any hp or much to it. The CAI. adds about 7-10 hp but not whp which is a NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE in a sense but not really. anyways good luck and hope this helps

 

Why are the wheels that he threw in bad? And say I were to sell them to get better ones, how much do you think I could get out of it? They includes tires with the rims also.

And does anyone know what rims these are? If I were to upgrade from the Motegi's these would be my 1st choice:

 

motegi's are cheap. theyll break/bend easily especially with NJ roads. how much would u get for motegi's? if u had them already? depends on how much tread is on the tire and if the wheels are in good shape or watever.

i have no clue what they are but by the center cap look like motegis

 

Oh, so even if I get the ones I posted it'll be exactly the same as the ones I have already, just a different color? :\ What do you recommend for rims that look good on a FM tC then?

And about the classifieds, is there a rating system to know who to buy from and who to watch out far?

Oh yea and about the VRD grill. I know it's an easy install and everything but will the original Scion emblem fit onto the mesh VRD grill? I want to keep that on

 

yeah not the same wheels exactly as u (i wouldnt think) just the same brand as u.

and as far as buying on classifieds u can usually tell whos a good seller by checking out the date they joined or how fluently they come on to this site, but ofcourse u pay with paypal so its secured. NEVER send cash/money order or checks jus Paypal transactions only.

and no the VRD grilles are badgless which is why people get them, to take away the scion emblem. if ur gonna keep the emblem no point in spending money on the grills bro.

 

for and intake as most people say it doesnt do much as far as for the tc....it might ad some power but mostly for looks and sound.....its the filter that matters

exhasut......$300 axle back really isnt worth it..it doesnt add any power just sound..if you get a catback or a midpipe along with the HKS or TRD again you wont get much power maybe 1 or two if that..mostly for sound....

people wil have different opions on mods for the tc but some say you get what you pay for other say mods dont do anything for the tc so bascially you have to experience it for yourself

if you want power get a crank Pulley its a cheap $100 mod...it doesnt add power it frees up power..this you will feel..along with a header but again its for sound
