Default New to scionlife and XB ownership - Have some questions

Hello all. I just got a 2005 XB a few days ago, and I have a few questions for you.

1) I need to replace the rear turn signal bulb. I read that there should be 3 bulbs, and that the one I need is the middle one. I can find and take out the top and bottom one, but there is no access to the middle one. Do I have to unscrew the bolt that is there in order to get to it?

2) Does the 05 XB come with keyless entry equipped? I was only given a key, and I would like to get a keyless entry remote if it is already equipped for it. Where can I get a keyless remote anyway?

3) My XB has a spare tire in the back, but I cannot find a car jack. Does it not come with one, or is it missing?

4) What kind of oil does it take?

Thanks,
obsolete

The Jack should be under your drivers seat, all xB's should come with keyless entry, either go to the stealership or find someone who has one that put an aftermarket alarm in theirs and reprogram the remote to your car.

As for oil, I believe it takes 10w30 and a lot of people have gone to fill synthetic with theirs, might be something to look into. I can't help with the bulb though cuz I've never had to change one in mine.

To remove the middle bulb, twist the thing that the wire harness is connected to. That's the actual bulb.

You can get the xB keyless remote from eBay if the dealership didn't supply it.

The jack is under the driver's seat.

I have had my tails in and out several times. To the best of my memory you do have to take out the rear tails to replace the center. Reach in and see if the center has the wire there. If not, then no big deal. All youll need is a 10MM socket and rachet. I use 1/4" with a 2 inch extention to loosen the nut, then back the nut off by hand. Be careful to not drop the nut down inside the car, otherwise youll be fishing it out with a magnet.

You can buy key fobs off Ebay for little cash. I believe there is a section in your owners manual on how to reset them for your box. If not, look around here and use the search button.

As mentioned, your jack should be in the plastic housing under the drivers seat. The handle along with the tow hook are mounted on the underside of the storage comaprtment that covers the spare.

5W30. It is up to you if you want to run synthetic or not. Me personally, i use Mobil 1 extened life and change the oil once a year with a filter which comes out to about 9K miles a year. Well under the 15K miles Mobil 1 suggests.

Congrats on the purchase, youve got a great car on your hands. There is lots of information here and on the other xB web sites.

Thanks,

Check this thread out. This might help you understand how to get that bulb out:

The jack is under a plastic cover, pinch the handle to remove cover.
Check to see if you have a cabin air filter in the tray behind your glove box.
Scion does not provide a filter when the car is new (to save every $ possible).
See the TECH section for photos and instructions of how to pop off the glove box to access tray. This will keep dust off your dash and filter polen. See thread called
'Fabricate your own CABIN AIR FILTER'. I run with 10W40 or 50 and change every 5000 miles. Great box for the first 100,000! What color is your box?

you can get away with 5/30 but 10/30 is the most common...

I would suggest, that with as rev happy as our little motors are synthetic will not only be a little smoother, but you dont have to change it as much... hooray

Just run what's on the oil cap, 5w30, pick your choice of synthetic, I use Mobil1 becasuse it's available everywhere and cheap.

The jack is under the driver's seat, or just get a universal one if needed. I got a second RE fob for $30 on ebay. The programming instructions are everywhere online, and all xBs are remote entry-ready.
