Just lowered My rs 1.0 check it out. Alignment question also.
Hey guys, Just lowered my Tc rs 1.0. Its on Road magnet springs(1.5 all around). Also, Im not sure if i need alignment. It doesnt really pull to one side or other but whenim on the highway going about 70-80 my steering wheel shakes a little. Do you think that is an alignment issue?? Thanks.

You should definitely get an alignment at some point. I wouldn't wait more than 2 weeks if you can help it. That will give a little time to "settle" if they're going to.
Even if it doesn't pull you could have some other alignment issues that aren't quite as noticeable. And I doubt you'd want to eat through a set of tires in a month.

i got the trd springs and didnt think the drop would mess my allignment up but i drove for about 3 months this way before it ate all my tires up lol
cheaper to just do it right away. but meh live and learn right.

Ya, it's a risk, that's all. I know there are tons of people who have not gotten an alignment and probably had regular tire wear and no problems - but I'd rather call that an anomaly and recommend an alignment to anyone that asks. $60-ish now is way better than $400+ later.
Get an alignment in a week or so. Maybe put some weights on all four corners of the car and let it sit overnight then go get an alignment. Lowering the rears is going to cause some camber changes and possibly other changes. I know my rears were completely off once I put my coilovers on.
if you didnt have this problem before lowering, i would take off all the wheels and double check all your nuts and bolts.
alignment should be a given after modifying your suspension or it can be really bad on your tires.

Yea i got my car aligned and im still having the same problems. Not sure what is causing it. It feels like my wheels are not balanced or something. When im driving the car kind of feels like its shaking at high speeds and my steering wheel is vibrating. I have no idea what it could be. Do you guys have any ideas? Is it possible to need the wheels rebalanced after installing springs? Any other ideas what could be going on?
Thanks
Thanks
i believe the torq spec is 80ft/lb for each nut. remember to torq it down in a star pattern.
also i havent heard of anyone messing up their tires from a TRD drop. im running on TRDs and got a aligment after 2 weeks and the only probably was the passinger front was off by like .5 degrees something small like that.
get a lifetime alignment plan. and every time u get a set of tires get a free alignment.
having concerns about firestones job cuz of the jiffy lube scams. so i was thinking after a alignment again with them id check it with toyota with a free alignment check.

Did you install the springs? Did you torque all the bolts back into specification? Like the strut bolts. And as stated, torque lugnuts to 80ft/lbs and skipping a lug each time in a star pattern.
Yea i installed the springs with a friend. Everything was tightened. The only thing i wasnt sure about is the strut bolts. I mean they were tightened as much as possible. As you know the strut spins so its sort of hard to make sure its completely tightened. I guess i can try tightening everything again.

if you over torqued (tightened) the lugs you could have warped the rotors/discs which would then cause vibration. Simple check, have your tires' balance checked to see if it needs to be balanced. They do this by putting your tires on the balancer as they are now to check.
4 ft/lbs isn't a huge difference. I know when my lugs are tightened to 76ft/lbs on my aftermarket rims and lugs, they become loose after about 30 minutes of driving where you put the socket and wrench on it, and it spins really easily.
Okay, so ive gotten an alignment and my wheel balanced today. It is still shaking and pulling some to the right. After talking with my friend we beleive it has something to do with the stabilizer link for the control arm. On saturday when we were removing the bolt to the stabilizer link we had to use an air gun to remove it because it was so rusted tight on there. Only thing is that we didnt realize the screw is not fastened to the rod. So we thought at first we had broke ooff the screw part and that it was ruined then we realized it was not connected. It was just spinning and spinning. However, were thinking that we still broke the bushing or whatever keeps it in place. That may be what is causing the shaking and pulling to the right. It makes some sense since the stabiler link we thought we broke(which turns out we probably did) was on the right front side. What do you guys think? If its not that then i have no idea.
NO

yeah i balanced a lot of rims back in my days.
a few of my stock rims are pretty bad sticky weights almost half way around the inner rim...

Like Ack said... I agree... definitely cheap insurance on the front side can save lots of hassles/expense down the road.
