Came over a mountain last night . Alta reached 5600ft. After around 2500ft there was a huge drop in power.
Anyone else experienced this in the tc?

No I mean I reached 2500 ft first and that's where I noticed a big drop in power. At the highest, I hit 5600 ft and there was definitely no power there.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this in their tc? I didn't think it would be so noticeble.

Yep. On MAP based vehicles (tc does not run map.. this is just an example) you many times have to stop, turn the car off and back on again so it takes a new base pressure reading or the car will run like complete ****. That shows the very big difference in air density and pressure at higher altitudes, which will cause a loss of performance.
Try living at 500 or so ft, then going to 5000 ft and taking a run.... same concept

Take it from a guy with a numb "butt-dyno", the altitude has everything to do with power output. When I was up on that mountain at 5400ft, I shifted from 5th to 3rd to climb at 9% grade and there simplywas no pull; no aggressiveness from the 2AZ.
Now I'm home. Good 'ol 615ft in Kentucky. It's a cool night (39) and I repeated the 5th to 3rd cog switch. Boy, what a difference altitude makes.
Our tc's need a built in altimeter.

doesn't bother turbo'ed or supercharged tc's as much :-P
but it shouldn't be that bad. I drove every weekend for 4 years with my scion from montgomery county to frostburg MD, and that involved going over Sidling hill, which is 2300 feet above sea level. i never noticed a drop in power, hell, i would fly up that hill, and all i had at the time was a trd cold air intake and exhaust.
no granted, you're talking about altitudes nearly twice that high, but i would be amazed if it is really that bad. on top gear, they drove over the andie's mountains in south america with old 4x4's from the 80's and went over 17k feet above sea level. our much more modern tC's shouldn't be struggling that much at 5k feet.

well I have to agree that the altitude does play a part in the power numbers. But like what was stated, you shouldnt be seeing that much of a power loss. I live almost a full mile above sea level and I've never had that problem, even when I go up to 8K or 9K I notice a little bit, but it's not that drastic of a change.

Well I'm just not doing that good a job explaining it. Noticeable.. At 2500 and lacking grunt at 5k and up. And when I was driving of course I knew I was gaining altitude but the whole hp loss due to altitude didn't occur to me until I thought about it.
The whole deal makes me appreciate the low altitude I live at. I was visiting the parents in the mountain hide-a-way. Barely, and I mean barely any cell coverage (you have to go outside and stand on the porch facing "town." (population:812!)
