Question Will 255/55/16 wheel&tires fit on my stock tC?

correction: will 225/55/16's fit on my stock tC?

Need some advice if you know for sure:

I bought 4 new steel wheels from a friend who has and xD, and they will fit my tC, I want to put 4 snow tires on these wheels.

I was told by TireRack that I could go with : 225 /50 / 16's but the
225 /55 /16's would be about .5 inches taller than they recommend.

I can get a set of 4 toyo 225 /55/ 16' snow tires . my tC is NOT lowered so I wanted to know if these tires will indeed be too tall ?

Am I risking the tires rubbing on the fenders ? or is the .5 inches ok?

thanks for your help,

Bill Jenkins / Boston MA

If you asked Tire Rack, there is no way they told you 255 for the size, it's 205 for OEM xD wheels. My g/f has an xD.

255s should not go on a 6.5" wheel. not to mention tirerack doesnt even offer a winter tire in 255/55/16. They recommend 195/60/16 for the xd

Question Correction: will 225/55/16's fit on my stock tC?

Correction from previous post : Will 225/55/16's fit on my stock 06" tC?

I bought 4 new steel wheels from a friend who has and xD,

I was told by TireRack that I could go with : 225 /50 / 16's but the
225 /55 /16's would be about .5 inches taller than they recommend.

I can get a set of 4 Toyo 225 /55/ 16's snow tires from a friend.

My tC is stock , so I wanted to know if these tires will be too tall ?

Am I risking the tires rubbing on the fenders?

thanks for your help,

There are many tire size calculators that can be found on the net, and good ones factor in rim diameter. IMO, that tire should fit, and rubbing is not the worry with this rim size but it is the width of the rim that limits the tire size that you can safely run.

However, realize that the 205/55-16 on the Spec tC is already taller than the 215/45-17 found on the base model. From what I remember the largest tire you could use on the 16x6.5 would be 215/50-16 or 205/55-16; maybe 205/60-16. My guess is that your tire will work, but such a large tire may not be as good for snow driving as say a 195 or 205 series.

^^yea tirerack recommends 195/60-65/16, for snow skinny tires are better.

to the OP:

I am going to merge both of your threads together since they are about the same thing. Next time instead of creating a completely new thread you can change the tirle of the thread by going into Edit> Advanced options, or you may contact ANY moderator for the tC section and one of us will be happy to help you out.

I skimmed this thread quick and am lost. What size are the xD steelies?
You guys are all around the place. When you say some guy put 225's on his wheels. I'm sure you meant the tC. The OEM wheel is 7.5" on a tC. If you say the xD wheel is 6.5". Then now the numbers are getting out of hand.
Another thing about snow tires is, if you ever read what TireRack says about snow tires... You shouldn't be trying to get more tread onto the snow. You'll want a narrower tire. They never mention the word stretch, but they do say narrower... If you think about it, it's like a sharp knife cutting through cheese (narrow tire) and not like trying to cut a block of cheeze with a pen (wider tire). They didn't give that as an example, but it's the best I could think of. I'd think if the wheel is 6.5" wide, you'll want 175-195... I'm just guessing/estimating. Stock tC tire is 215 on a 7.5". You're losing a inch. It's not like the track, where the ground is made to catch. It's the snow...
