Default For those who have trouble pumping gas into an XB

I had experienced trouble at the gas pump trying to keep the damn pump to stop cutting off and so i went on this site looking for answers on how to remedy it. I tried all the vague solutions and none of them worked. Finally after fooling around with it some more i think i've found the secret. At least it works for me. When you pump gas hold the nozel so that the hose is facing the rear of the vehical. That is rotate it 90 degrees counterclockwise from the normal positioning. Begin to pump and you should have no trouble with it constantly cutting off. I had heard someone say to hold it upside down but that didn't work for me. You can't turn it toward the gas door because there isn't enough room. So by deductive reasoning i fugured out that it must point to the rear and surprise surprise it works. At least for me. Give it a try and tell me your results so i might feel i helped someone out there.

I stick the nozzle in the hold and pull the handle, set the little lock and stand there. Never had a problem.

I have also never had a problem with this... there is a TSB out for a new tank and pipe.

Better idea. Take the car to the dealer and have the problem fixed so you can pump gas holding the pump at any angle youd like.

Same reason I didn't take mine in - Every time it is at either dealer here I seem to get it back with the audio "adjusted" for me and the dash screen on. I'm tired of it, so I just quite going to the dealers all together.

When I used to have motorcycles- the gas pump would cut off all the time. What I did was to pull back on the 'foreskin' while pumping. It worked very well for my bikes. But it doesn't seem to work very well for the Scion. I'm gonna try this 90 degree thing.

I'll say it again. Take it to the dealer. In 2-3 hours you'll have a new tank and filler tube and can pump at full speed every other day, just like me!

This has been addressed a lot. Take it in, have the TSB done and quit fighting it. TSB # EG049-04 to be exact

my old ford ranger used to do that.... i used to get yelled at by the gas station clerk people.. telling me the tank it full and i'm gunna cause a fire.... Yeah a ford ranger that can do 250 miles on 1.5 gal of gas, i think there is some scientist that would love to know my secret!!... i ended finding buy pulling the nozzle out about .5-1in it stopped "popping" on me.... that and pulling it out a lifting slightly (theres always a lil play) kinda lines up the flow w/ the gas hose on the car..... i dunno, just tryin to help i guess

this thing happened to me last night when i was pumping gas into the xB. the nozzle stop pumping in the gas, so when i start the car up, the gauge reads that the gas its not all the way up. i will try the "turn the nozzle to 90 degrees to the rear of the car" method next time i refill the gas. if that dont work, then i will take it in to the dealer since i know 2 people who works there...

Turning the nozzle will not always work. This is a factory defect, hence the TSB.
