Anyone know anything about Surge Performance Chip
Manufacturer: Surge Engineering or the Stage 3 Surge O2 Chip Combo

Im a new xb owner and im not sure if these chips would hurt or improve overall performance. I am not racing so it might just be a waste of time and money. Like to hear any thoughts about the subject and these chips specifically.

Chips are a waste. Even if they work momentarily, the ECU will eventually correct itself to nullify the chip. Some cars can be chipped, but I have yet to hear of a chipped Scion that actually did anything.

#1. You said you're not racing.
#2. It doesn't work anyway.

You need to change a bunch of things in order for it to be effective. Most importantly, help the breathing, need CIA, header, exhaust for beginners. Chip won't do much for you with stock components.

Ill have Dyno numbers on the Unichip soon. Have heard nothing of Surge. Being that it an ebay item, I'd not trust it to do much. BTW, chips/programmers dont have to do anything with racing, especially if you just want to improve drivability.

Just responded to this same question on Club xB. The Surge is just a resistor that makes it look as though the MAF is delivering more air than it is (a standard "chip" trick) and so the ECU adjusts the AFR accordingly -- ie. it enrichens the mixture. Of course, this will result in a rich O2 reading and the ECU will start adjusting accordingly. The solution, of course, is a different O2 sensor to fool the ECU that it's burning leaner than it is. So, what will this ultimately accomplish? Messed up fuel economy and messed up emissions.

Guess how I found out? Less than five minutes on Google! For questions like this, please do at least a little searching before posting a question.

Yeah, Ive done a resistor mod on Fords before, where you just bypass the Inlet Air Temp Sensor into making the ECU think its 32 degrees outside. (Measure resistance of IAT sensor while its in ice water, and use that number resister). All this did is cause the ECU to run the max timing program. Good, except when its hot outside you may experience knock.

The surge chip just sounds like a hustle.
