Default Down Shifting

I didn't have this problem before but its just so that it happened recently
everytime i down shift from 5th to 4th its ok but once i downshift from 4th to 3rd to grinds D:
it happened twice so far... during one day (today to be exact) in one road trip weird huh?
since then after work it seems ok now... but pretty worried. but if the clutch the problem im all for getting a new clutch kit... just when.
but before i buy one what do you think? should i be ok for now til it happens for frequently or just replace it?

If its grinding between gears it could possibly be your syncros, dont understand why it only does it downshifting though.

It also depends on how you drive. If you beat the ____ out of it constantly, the cars lifespan is reduced drastically! Same with all the fluids as well.

Used to have that problem myself...although it was only on up-shifts not down. I have attributed this to two things. The first is that I probably unconsciously "pay attention" more to revs when down shifting so user error is lessened. The other is that I have 107K on the car. Solution (for me) was to change out my gear oil with a good full synthetic. I used Lucas oil, but any full synthetic helps. There is a good DIY here--> http://www.clubxb.com/forums/f14/diy...gen-24015.html Unfortunately it is not from these forums, and it is for an xB, but it is exactly the same for the xA. Hope this helps!

...and there is a handy dandy how-to link in my post above...if you do it make sure you have a 24mm deep socket...the thread just says a socket...I needed a deep one....wait...that sounds dirty...

yup cause ive had similar issues with my tc,it would grind like no tommrow on stock gear oil and i change the gear oil to eneos and never looked back, smooth as butter...if that doesnt work for you,you may have more of a serious issue, but change your gear oil and youll be surpise on the difference ill make

I was gonna say this before, but i was at work. It could also be your clutch. Mine did it once or twice and then 2 weeks later, a spring in the hub of my clutch came out. I replaced the clutch and put eneos gear oil in and havent had a problem since. You should definetly start with changing the fluid. When the oil starts to break down it quits protecting the way its supposed to. And the synchros being the weakest link, theyre the first thing to get damaged! As an automotive professional, I would recomend changing the fluid, driving 3000 mi. and changing it again. Do that a couple of times and it will gradually get better. Does it make any chattering/clicking noise when you start moving from a redlight, stop sign, etc.?

Have you tried double clutching to see if the grind stops?

no gear oil is for the tranny and motor oil is for the motor, changing the motor oil has no affect on the tranny lol......what gear oil are you using if your still using stock and even if you change the gear oil and still use stock try a different brand like eneos or something,

someone mention the clutch, yea it could be a possiability but i wouold change the gear oil to something better other then OEM,then give it another 3k miles and see what happens, every car is different, ive experience the same issue and i thought it was my clutch but i change the tranny oil and it solve the issue but thats only my car

^ yes! Change the tranny oil first and after about 3K it still does it, you might wanna consider a clutch. Also when downshifting (technically) youre supposed to rev-match. I think the best thing to do would be to not downshift. Start with Eneos (you can buy cases on amazon) and see if that fixes it.
