Save your 400 bucks....go to autozone rent spring compressors....put in about 2-3 hours and do it yourself. I went to a shop who wanted $90 a corner, so close to what your shop is charging and I turned around and did it myself. Did it two years ago with no problems, no experience, and limited tools. It's not as hard as you think.

Granted I have an xb2 but I'm assuming a TC could not be much harder.

Actually $400 is not that bad depending what the hourly shop rate is (it is a buisness and they will make a profit on any job, remember you allways have the option to say no).... Ask them what the shop rate is and ask them to see what the book time is. Also does that include an alignment check? Some people say that you dont need it but it does not hurt after you do pull the whole suspension apart to make sure that everything is still correct. Doing the drop your self is an option too, DarkBox8 is correct with hand tools and some time you can do it your self a tC is a bit more involved than an xB but not by much almost anyone can do it. Rent the tools from a parts store get some friends and go for it.

the tc is a bit harder then the xb2. the rear is a PITA i think lol. but on the xb2 its way easy, i think it took me like 1 hour to do my friends xb2 and a few hours to do the tc.. but OP do it yourself, make sure to have a buddy or 2 to help you out, makes things way easier.

400 is way too much, the most I've seen spring installs go for is $200 around here. If you know what you're doing, do it yourself, it's fairly easy. It should only take a couple of hours, IF you know what to do.

just a friendly tip if you decide to do it yourself get a razor blade and a door type deal right where the top of the rear shock is and cut it so tha it swings towards you not away from you, that way when you have the rear seats back in the up right position you can't tell its cut. makes it a 1000 times easier and you don't have to remove the rear of the car tot get to the shock mounts

Wait like 2-3 weeks for the springs to settle before you get an alignment.

Hey better the strut than the cv boot.. I think the best part of owning a car and wanting to replace or add anything to it is having the luxury to do it yourself.

I am in the same boat.

Shop told me their manual says 2.5hrs for the front end and 3.5 hours to do the rear. I was like WTF its a Toyota really? Their quote was $561.

As for me, I dont feel comfortable working with springs and spring compressors. I just dont. Installing intakes, header, etc I can do but I refuse to work with springs.

I'd like to find a shade-tree mechanic but who can I trust to not scratch (or etc) my car?

When I had bought my TRD Springs from the dealership I had asked the salesperson a rough guess around how much it would cost for dealer to install them. He laughed and said around 800.

Well after I finished installing the springs with the help of my dad. I thought now since I know how to take out the struts, I would do this any day in any weather condition for 800 dollars!! For 900 it is worse than highway robbery!

WTF TRD springs cant void the warranty. Put another way, Toyota springs wont void the Toyota warranty. Call them back and tell them to double check. Then tell them they are retarded.

EDIT: I just called the dealership. They said hell no it wont void warranty. Obviously. Secondly I asked how much to install and he said the fronts are cake but the rears are a MAJOR PAIN so labor will be $550 ish. Yikes. :(

Front Struts are not difficult to take out or install. The rear ones are only easy if you know how to remove some of the rear interior. I wouldn't say they are a major pain, just tricky and time consuming. :P

x2 on his first paragraph.

So whats all the fuss about? Do you have to remove the rear seats and thats all or what? The rear springs themselves aren't any more complex that a civic or something similar are they?

Most people will be surprised how easy it is to do something like replacing the struts. At first it seems like a major project but it really isn't bad at all. Good Job!!

you dont even have to take the seats out, if i remember, all i needed was a 10mm wrench and a philips head screwdriver. you just take out all the side panels and carpet in the cargo area. i know theres a DIY somewhere...
