Hey, I'm still trying to decide which model to get. (between the xA and xB)
It seems like every day I like one better and the next day I like the other one.
I want to know what made you choose yours over the other. Was it just the looks? The price? The traction control? etc. etc. etc. What?!
Thanks! :D

xB because it was roomier then my last and most cars too. It was really affordable and it got of course great mileage.
xA was too claustraphobic for me with the front glass coming in at a steep angle and the rear was room wasn't all that great.

I bought the XA because I fell in love with the black one Drew had fixed up at Toyoya of El Cajon. It was lowered, had chrome wheels, spoiler, amd silver flame decals along the sides. Looked like a badass little car.
I had never seen the XB before, so I was shocked by it's styling. It looked like a slammed mini land rover, like something you would drive on an african safari, lol. Since then, I have come to love the looks of the XB, and can honestly say that it is the only car (affordable car) that I look at and think, "hmmmm.... should I have bought that instead?"
In the end, I think the XB attracts the most attention from the general public. Unfortunately, it also attracts the haters. I don't regret buying the XA, but I wish my bf liked the XB so we could have one of each. He's dead set on a Tacoma, tho.

xB.... I already own a small hatch and needed a 4door. This is alot better for the long drives too.

At first I wanted an xA, then I really wanted an xB.
But now the xA has really grown on me again. I think it's very Euro in a way.
And I really like the Phantom Gray Pearl color. It's also cheaper. :?
I've just read all the horror stories of people hating on the xB and scratching them, and I don't think I want to deal with that either.
The main thing that worries me, is if I will "miss" the traction control.
Thanks for your reponses! :D

Traction control? We don't need no stinking traction control!
I've never had it so I would never miss it. I'm old school-Learn to drive correctly and you don't need the new technology that was put in place to save the dummies that think driving a car is just a way to get where they want to be....
BTW, your car will brake in the shortest distance WITHOUT the ABS!!

but when braking in the shortest distance, you cannot steer =)
That is the point of ABS, to provide near maximum braking but leave enough grip on the table for people to be able to steer. even top level racers find ABS useful in many situations. and even f1 drivers find traction control useful.
thought, traction controll on a 900hp 1000pound car is a little more relevant than on a 2300pound 108hp car =)

i feel like im in the same boat as u at first i wanted the xb hands down i even talk my brother in to being the first in Gerogia but now after i saw this xa dont know i guess i just need to test drive them both back to back
for me it was more like why NOT get the xB rather than digging for reasons to get it.
Roomy small package, fuel economy, price, quirkiness, fun factor, killer stok sound, etc were all contributing factors
As far as the xA goes, I rather go for the Honda Fit which will be here shortly I hope.

I bought the xA because I've had some experience with buying "practical" vehicles that will haul lots of stuff....
What invariably happens, when you own a "hauler", is that you discover lots of new friends, who want you to haul their stuff for them. You are happy to oblige, when the vehicle is new, because you want to show it off. But spending every weekend helping people move things gets old in a hurry.
Besides, the xA is a blast to drive....it's like a go-cart with big wheels....

The XB looks better when it's tricked out, and it has more room.

i actually prefer the xBs stock looks over the xA. stock, the xA looks like a cheap, little car that i would never drive. no offense.... but with the body kits that i've seen, i think they look pretty friggen hot. maybe i just never gave the xA a chance. i've been hooked on the xB since i first saw it at the l.a. auto show over a year ago.

I personally like the look of the xA a LOT. . . that and I used to live in a high vandalism neighborhood, and I felt that an xB could potentially be a vandalism target (a few fellow xB owners as well as a few here on SL have been victimized). There are only a handful of cases, as I'm sure people will be quick to reply with, "but it NEVER happened to ME!" But it does happen. . . and I've been through that insurance nightmare.
Reason #2: I came from a faster than average car. Not counting the tC (which had just become available when I purchased my xA), the 5spd xA is marginally the faster Scion, and this thing is just plain acceptable for acceleration. Not great, but acceptable. Anything slower by my standards would not be (for my driving needs).
Although I really love the xB, I'm well aware that it is a "love-it-or-hate-it" car. I'm a weak, insecure individual, and I don't deal well with idiots who decide to car bash. The xA was obviously the more conservative choice.

I got the xA. Looks more sleek...for some reason I thought it looked like a newer Mini Cooper, and I liked that. I don't like the looks of the box, but I know that's just personal opinion...you either hate it or you love it.

I got the xA because it's exactly what I wanted: an inexpensive, dependable, compact car with good gas milage. I love the style of the car (I agree that it looks like a 4-door, Japanese Mini Cooper). And although it's nowhere near as roomy inside as an xB, it's certainly not "claustraphobic". I actually find the interior surprisingly roomy. When I tell people I bought a Scion, the first thing I hear is, "Eeeww...you didn't get one of those box things did you?". When people actually see my xA, the reaction I usually get is, "Cool! What kind of car is that?". I love my xA.

i bought the xA for the price, the fact that it's faster/lighter/better mileage, and that it has more room behind the backseat for storage.
i'm so damn glad i didn't get the box.

you ever measure the cargo space between xA and xB? xA is bigger.. No, I haven't measured it, but I did open the back of a xB and it looks a good-bit bigger. I love my xA, but I don't think it has anywhere near the cargo room of a xB. I'm sitting at my desk at work right now, so I can't go out and measure my car. If someone could, I'd love to hear the distance from the rear hatch door, to the back of the rear seats in both the xA and the xB. Any dealers here with a tape and both vehicles sitting around?

I bought the xA....I would have overlooked the heavier weight, slower acceleration, less aerodynamic, and worse gas mileage of the xB (because I like the way the xB looks) if it weren't for the dash arrangement of the xB. If the gauge pod was perfectly centered like the xA's then I would have bought the xB instead. I think the xB is more aesthetically pleasing on the outside, but I'm going to see the car mostly from the inside, so I had to decide from a driver's perspective.

I was already driving an Echo that the lease was running out on. The xA wasn't that much different than it or for that matter neither were most of the cars in the class. If I was going to get something the same, I'd just buy the Echo and keep driving it. But I wanted something different since this is our second car and my commuter. I was thinking of a convertible but nothing really appeals to me that's not hugely expensive and/or has an actual back seat for the kids.
My friend who is the ultimate comparison shopper mentioned Scion. My first reaction was WTH is that? I don't want to be driving the next Kia-Geo-Yugo new car company that doesn't last but a model year or 2... What? It's built BY Toyota. OK, not to worry about quality but the website pics didn't do them justice, especially not a year ago. When I stepped onto the dealer showroom and saw a white box with a spoiler and wheels, sat in it and I was sold. Then I just had to find a green one.

I drove both as well. I drove the xB first though.
Initially I liked the looks of the xA better, but a big rear seat was key in my next car, the xB's room won me over.
With the 55 pound (look it up!) weight difference in mass and identical suspension and engine I didn't notice a perceptable difference in handling or performance. The xA seemed a little quicker off the line, maybe by a 0.4 of a sec or something (manual tranny)
I like the xA's looks a lot still, I just couldn't deal with the lack of space since this would be my only car and I carry friends/passengers frequently.
The fact that the xB came with TRAC and was a nice bonus as well. I wish I could have had the side airbags offered in the xA!
I could see myself choosing the xA if I needed more of a city car and didn't carry more than one other person often. I think I might miss the high roof and sense of roominess on longer trips though.

TRAC is nice when you're starting out on a rain slicked road or driving in snow. The rest of the time you won't miss it at all. It doesn't do much for you in regular driving. It's a nice feature though. If you are a good driver with experience driving in snow/wet though, its not as if you'd ever 'need' it really.

you ever measure the cargo space between xA and xB? xA is bigger..
Um... dude.
What are you smoking?
The cargo volume of the xA is 11.7 cubic feet. The xB has nearly double that at 21.2 cubic feet.
Just for the record:
The xB weighs just 55 lbs, yes FIFTY pounds more than the xA. Put a weeks groceries in your xA and it weighs as much as my xB.
The xB is 1.2 inches longer, but has a 4 inch longer wheelbase.
It has 6.9 inches more rear headroom (my 6-7 friend can sit back there comfortably!) but on the outside it's only 4 inches higher than the xA.
The xB has 4 inches more front legroom, but the xA has more hip room by 4 inches. I'm not sure how they measure 'hiproom' though.
I'm not proping one of the other, just wanted to clear up the fact about the dimensions of the cars.
All these numbers are from Edmunds.com and I cross-checked em.
