View Full Version : Custom Vertical Touchscreen and Interface
no-tec 08-13-2010, 03:09 PM UPDATE ON PAGE 3 WITH A VIDEO I MADE
Put in a new screen last night. A 10.4" vertical oriented touch screen. It's running a centrafuse front end [carPC app] with a complete custom interface I made. What do you guys think?

Young-Gun 08-13-2010, 03:40 PM That is a big screen
rangerryda 08-13-2010, 04:04 PM Looks pretty bad ___ to me but I don't know what I could use it for beyond music and navigation lol.
Aphex13 08-13-2010, 04:05 PM Wow, looks great! Did you integrate your ac controls?
no-tec 08-13-2010, 04:06 PM oh boy, with the right tech know how- it's endless. OBDII, Traffic, streaming music, HVAC control, window amp locks control, phone calls, voice activation, it goes on.
no-tec 08-13-2010, 04:07 PM Wow, looks great! Did you integrate your ac controls?
im working on that now. for the time being the old one was moved to the glove box. should be finished in a few weeks.
FlintMica2005 08-13-2010, 04:10 PM so you can control the HVAC, Radio and all that with it?? thats SICK
no-tec 08-13-2010, 04:22 PM if you get a radio module, sure. XM, SAT, and am/fm radio. shoutcast and pandora as well.
Jiggaman 08-13-2010, 05:12 PM wow. amazing
fewjative 08-13-2010, 06:21 PM I ____ing want that now!
Bdog4life 08-13-2010, 06:25 PM me too^^ give me a how to once you finish...lol
EDDIEA123 08-13-2010, 07:08 PM That is pure WIN! I digg it. If only some of us had the same amount of knowledge as you. 2 thumps up!
juzlookzfazt 08-13-2010, 07:59 PM All it is -- is just a computer hooked up to a touch screen panel that uses a customized / downloadable interface. The real bad-___-ness comes in with the integrated HVAC controls, features and other various controls.
Post the features or intended features please! :D
no-tec 08-13-2010, 08:01 PM You can preview some of the skin here: http://forums.fluxmedia.net/skinning-discussions/9353-noir-vertical-skin-concept.html
PRODIGY3000 08-15-2010, 05:05 AM Where's the PC mounted??
That looks FANTASTIC. But I sincerely hope you have a way of covering that sht up when you park.
carben100 08-15-2010, 07:14 PM That looks awesome, I would never put a screen that big in my car but props for getting it to fit.
Glad I saw your thread, it got me very interested in centrafuse :icon_biggrin:
tpme06 08-19-2010, 03:37 PM That is awesome. I was thinking of trying to replace my head unit with a 3g ipad because I am not techy enough to write programs and stuff ;)
Murphys_Law 08-19-2010, 03:39 PM i would just be worried about thieves since it cant be covered
no-tec 08-19-2010, 03:40 PM do it, thatd be awesome.
tpme06 08-19-2010, 03:42 PM I am sure you could rig some sort of cover together. as far as having an ipad in the car, you can put it on a swivel mount (much like a garmin) and take it out/put it under a seat. You can also get a badd ___ security system such as a python or viper.
no-tec 08-19-2010, 03:44 PM i have the viper 2 way remote now. so if someone were to break in, and im, say, within 200yards, i'd hear it on the remote.
tpme06 08-19-2010, 03:46 PM haha i have the python 2 way, i welcome theives. I have the glass break and tilt sensor, and backup battery. GL. although... if i am over a mile away please leave my car alone :p
skinnayyy 08-21-2010, 02:35 PM someone put an ipad in a tacoma. i don't know where i found it, but a google search will find it.
mmmpshh 08-21-2010, 02:37 PM dude, thats sick!!! I may have to put you to work cuz i want one!!!
Artist 08-21-2010, 02:46 PM I think it looks AMAZING! It must have taken you a long time jsut to get everything you needed to install the system. Congratulations.
no-tec 08-21-2010, 02:51 PM Thanks man, its been about 4 years in the making. From system to system, and screen to screen, I think this setup will stay with me for a bit.
mmmpshh 08-21-2010, 02:52 PM how much $ do you have invested in the current setup?
no-tec 08-21-2010, 03:01 PM the pc is about 1k. screen is 300. fabrication and painting was about 300. and a few other things here and there for about 200 more.
mmmpshh 08-21-2010, 04:50 PM thats not too bad at all
faux_ghost 08-26-2010, 02:51 PM watching
firecracker 08-27-2010, 01:48 AM First, that looks awesome and it's cool that everything is integrated.
Second, Amazing CD you have playing.
What is that secondary display you have underneath though?
no-tec 08-27-2010, 01:59 AM Awesome, I'm glad you guys all like it!
Atmosphere is just great.
The cubby screen is just a little screen I installed that shows basically any additional info you want from the carpc on it. i just use it for music really though. Are you coming to any of the major scion florida meets in the next few months? i'll be at them, so stop by and say hi.
cyr0n_k0r 08-27-2010, 02:42 AM Have you finalized the HVAC controls with the touchscreen?
no-tec 08-27-2010, 01:06 PM Yes and No. I have it working and in the car. [ive attached a picture I just took this morning] but the temp control slider doesn't work yet. And it doesn't "save" the controls after the car is restarted. Every other button does though, but there's still a lot of programming to be done till it's 100%.
cyr0n_k0r 08-27-2010, 02:45 PM Tell you what, you get that working and I'll most likely buy the programming from you.
no-tec 08-27-2010, 02:50 PM the temp control will actually have to be controlled mechanically. press a button on the screen, and it will literally have a motor turn the knob on the hvac controller board.
miggity79 08-29-2010, 07:35 AM the pc is about 1k. screen is 300. fabrication and painting was about 300. and a few other things here and there for about 200 more.
great work. im sure it was worth every penny.
Murphys_Law 08-29-2010, 03:29 PM god thats awesome, how long before this stuff is standard on cars
emptystreets130 08-29-2010, 07:06 PM It reminds me of the MR2. Basically this person replaced every guage, ever panel to a touchscreen unit.

Spr4yedTc 08-30-2010, 02:13 PM baller!
RusWolf 08-30-2010, 09:13 PM Looks clean, but honestly not my cup of tea.
Ace83 08-30-2010, 09:21 PM looks really clean! very nice
no-tec 08-31-2010, 03:14 AM Here's a video I put together for you guys to see the screen in action and the HVAC relocation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeKm8fr7Ix0
tc-guy 08-31-2010, 03:25 AM you sir are a tech wiz. hats off to you.
ToyotaScionTRD 08-31-2010, 03:28 AM Three phrases: Thats sick, thats awesome, and thats my desktop background for tomorrow.
no-tec 08-31-2010, 03:41 AM Haha thanks guys. Here use this background: I made it just now for you

cinnamon toasst 08-31-2010, 04:11 AM Would u be willing to sell that program to someone who was looking to do something like that for themself?
no-tec 08-31-2010, 12:58 PM Unfortunately, the base of the code was given to me by someone as a starting off point, and I'm not allowed to even give it away, let alone sell it. Unless of course you're talking about my skin and not the HVAC controls - if that's the case yeah, I'd give it to anyone who wanted it free of charge.
cinnamon toasst 08-31-2010, 01:37 PM Awh man that stinks! Cause i went to a local custom audio place to see if they could do the same thing u did for me, and they said they could do everything accept the programming for the HVAC haha they were clueless!! Ha
no-tec 08-31-2010, 01:41 PM Yeah it's pretty serious - anyone with good C programming experience could probably do it. I asked around on the forums and than found somebody on craigslist to help me out. Its also wired into the actual circuit board of the HVAC too so it's not just something you could send out- unless you were to send out the hvac too i guess.
cinnamon toasst 08-31-2010, 02:03 PM I wasnt expecting that to be that complicated. I dont think i can get into all that, even tho it is awsome ha i think ive said it before but props man for doing it, it looks amayzing if u ask me
no-tec 08-31-2010, 02:52 PM I really appreciate it man. It makes the whole money sink worth it to see people appreciate it and get motivation to do their own creative things.
egobuster1 08-31-2010, 04:32 PM that thing is absolutely awesome man. i would love to have something like that
EDDIEA123 08-31-2010, 10:05 PM This deserves to win best ICE awards all over the place!!
cyr0n_k0r 09-01-2010, 01:44 AM Unfortunately, the base of the code was given to me by someone as a starting off point, and I'm not allowed to even give it away, let alone sell it.
Why is that? I've not heard of this kind of stipulation with custom coding.
Aurora 11-17-2010, 05:18 AM Depends on who the coder is. These things can get pretty complicated.
Anyways, no-tech, I like your style and design bro!
A-snell 11-17-2010, 05:19 AM HOLY CRAP!!! that is AWESOME SAUCE!!
could you fit an ipad in there instead.
no-tec 11-17-2010, 12:45 PM Thanks guys I'm glad you all like it. An iPad is like 1/2" smaller so probably with a little bit of filler it would fit in just fine - or actually since there's some dead space around the iPad it might need to be expanded a bit. But yeah it'd fit.
explicitiscut 11-17-2010, 05:25 PM Unfortunately, the base of the code was given to me by someone as a starting off point, and I'm not allowed to even give it away, let alone sell it. So your friend isn't interested in making any money? I know a ton of people that would want this interface and its controls once finished...
I'd pay for it definitely...
Unless your friend took it from somebody else, then there would be no reason for him not to want to release it, or sell it.... We live in an open source world friend, why you being stingy ;)
makatc 11-17-2010, 08:56 PM amazing job
A-snell 11-18-2010, 05:34 AM now I just need to find a way to incorporate something like this into my 2nd gen B.. hmmmmm
Ziggi 11-18-2010, 03:22 PM Wow thats very cool!
And good choice of music, Atmosphere :icon_headphones:
