Default Rear latch question

I got an 06 Xb and my rear latch isn't working right. When I close the rear door, it locks but the door light doesn't go out. I played around with the latch and it seems that the door is supposed to close a little further for the light to go out.

Is the latch supposed to pull the door in the rest of the way? Cause no matter how hard I slam the door it doesnt close all the way.

Thanks

It might be just your switch on the latch that has something wrong with it.... When it is closed, does it look like its closed right or does it look like it could close some more?

Chances are the latch is not broken , just out of adjustment. On the lower part of the frame remove the plastic trim , find the proper Torx bit , push the upside down "U" latch in a little and tighten it down , close hatch and see if it did it. Keep trying until the hatch closes and the light goes out.

Happens alot if you close the mat , or anything else in the hatch door while closing it.

Frog box would you please expand on what to do with the rear latch on the xb? I have a 2008 xb and the rear hatch won't close all the way either the open door indicator is on and the hatch does still have some noticible play in it .

Thanks in advance

Default 2008 Xb rear door doesn't close

Ok, my problem and then my solution

My 2008 Xb rear door would not close all the way. When I closed it it just partially shut and would not lock either. There was a little play back and forth while it was shut too. On the dash the red door open light lit continually .....

I read a both the sensor bad, door misaligned, latch actuator gone bad the door pads gone bad....

No one that I found stated the obvious from what I read... Remember the door seal the goes all around the whole rear hatch? The bottom portion came loose and every time I closed the door it was wedged between the door and the part the the latch catches when you close the door.
Every time I opened it the slight pull would partially place the bottom portion of the seal to look as if it was normal.....

Lesson learned? Check the most obvious first

Pay attention to the indicator lights

Happy Scion to all

You might have to have the latch striker welded.
