Yakima rack and then some
Here's my 2nd generation roof rack I added onto a standard Yakima rack. Since I use my Working Toaster for hauling stuff, I needed something that could handle full sheets of plywood without lifting at freeway speeds. It's made of Ash, with some stain and spar varnish (need to put on a few more coats). The side rails are made like an "I" beam, with the center dado'ed into the top and bottom rails. The holes in the sides are for lashing the rope thru and to take up the extra nylon straps. The front cross bar lets me clamp down thin stuff like 1/4" ply/hardboard so they don't lift up. On and off time for the system is about 5 minutes. I'm trying to design an extended roller system for the back to make it easier getting solid core doors on the rack.

Pt Cruiser, meh! If I did go with a Land Rover look, it's going to be with the classic black and white Zebra Stripes. Now, how would I mount the spare tire to the hood and still be able to see over it...
